34 Weeks Pregnant And I’m Still High Intensity Interval Training Like It Ain’t No Thang

Feb 11, 2012

I’m 6 weeks away from “d-day” and still kicking—literally—in my favorite high intensity workout class called Stoked360.  If you had asked me at the start of my pregnancy if I would still be working out at this point, especially in such a hard class, I would have said no. But each week, I return and I’m able to do more than I originally thought. I’m kicking ass, I feel amazing and want you to know how and why it’s possible for you to do the same.

When Pregnant, Swimming is good for you; But What about Eating What’s In the Water?

Jan 25, 2012

Swimming has been one of my favorite replacements for running.  I find that the cardio I have built up through running has transferred nicely into the swimming pool where I am easily swimming 50 plus laps and similar to running, I seem to tap into that “Zone” where I tune everything else out and am alone with my thoughts.  I also look at it as a “bonding” experience with my daughter like we are swimming together and it brings back childhood memories of when I won “Most Improved Swimmer” at age 4 (see picture above).  While swimming during pregnancy is looked at favorably, eating what is in the water has been viewed with more trepidation.  But after a conversation with Dr Thomas Brenna,  I am convinced that eating the right fish during pregnancy is extremely beneficial to me and my unborn daughter.

Insomnia: When the one thing you need becomes a fleeting memory…..can exercise help?

Dec 18, 2011

My number one complaint during pregnancy?  INSOMNIA!  I feel fortunate that unlike some of my friends who are sick throughout their pregnancy, I have not been too sick.  But when it’s the third night in a row where I am wide awake at 3am and unable to fall back to sleep (yes, like right now), insomnia feels nothing short of a complete nightmare, especially for someone who has a fulltime job and no opportunity to nap during the week day.  Can exercise help?

Expecting Mommies: You can still shop at your favorite stores for fitness gear!

Dec 9, 2011

At some point during your pregnancy, the inevitable happens; your favorite work-out staples just don’t work for you anymore. Good news! Just because your body is changing and you may have to move your old workout staples temporarily to the top of your closet, it does not mean you have to stop going to your favorite stores.  And even better news: the holidays are approaching us and what better to ask for than new workout clothes from your favorite stores that will fit through your pregnancy and beyond.
