Happy Fashion Week, New York City! This Is How A Fitness Girl Rolls In Style. Plus a GIVEAWAY!!!

Entertainment - Fashion/Gift

I can't believe NY Fashion Week is here already!

Should I start crying because it means summer's over or because I can't afford any of the clothes on the runway? I'll just cry out of pure happiness because honestly NY Fashion Week is super fun and it's not about how much you paid for or where you buy your clothes. It's about how you ROCK THEM. So here's a look at how I rock Fashion Week...

**Start thinking about the craziest/edgiest outfit you've ever worn and leave a comment about it at the end of this article to enter my my Fashion Week Dream Body Giveaway**

How I rolled in style for NY Fashion Week

I started off my day with a fitness fashion shoot in the West Village. I wanted to show MizzFIT readers and followers how you can push the limits of fitness fashion. Yes, I dress this way to rollerskate and yes, my West Village neighborhood in downtown Manhattan is used to it. I like to think that I inspire them and I do enjoy a giggle here and there from wide-eyed tourists.

For my shoot, I paid homage to Betsey Johnson with her strapless, prom-inspired black lace poof dress. May the BJ brand rest in peace (all stores sadly closed this summer) and I really hope we haven't seen the last of Betsey's pop-sugary fashions. My skates are by C.Wonder ($75) and if I could make out with them, I would. C.Wonder carries the best fitness accessories and gear right down to pogo sticks, and they're not even a sportswear store! If you live in NYC, check out the store on Spring Street in Soho. The watches I'm rockin' are by my longtime favorite, RumbaTime. They're juicy, they're sweat resistant and only cost $45.

After the shoot, my hair/makeup-artist Sarah Wood, fixed my braids and I was off to Fashion Palette's Australian Designer runway show at Canoe Studios. Skates weren't allowed so I quickly changed into a floral dress by Trina Turk (as long as it's warm outside, I'll continue to dress like it's still summer).

At Fashion Palette's show, I got to hang with Nicole Rose Stillings and Micah Jesse while sitting almost directly across from Kristin Chenoweth--Aaaah mazing! My favorite part of the show was the line of highly impractical bikini-top jewelry chains paired with black sateen high-waisted bikini bottoms. Can I get the sporty version of that?

The minute the show ended, I was off to dinner with The Glam Network at Beaumarchais. Glam Media never disappoints. Dinner was fancy and all the fashion bloggers in attendance were dazzling, especially my favorite Ashley Torres from Pursuit of Shoes (pictured below). Isn't Chris Anthony from Glam a cutie? I'd love to see him in fashionably workout gear. Mmmhmm.

Here's a vid from my dinner with Glam:

The workout that got me through my hectic 1st day of Fashion Week...GIVEAWAY TIME!

It was a busy day for me and busy days call for an effective workout solution that can be done in 1-hour or less preferably first thing in the morning. I had no travel time for gym or fitness class so I decided to do one of my new favorite DVD workouts at home. It's called the Fusion Fitness Dream Body Workout and I'm officially calling it one of the 5 hardest DVD workouts of my life.

It's the perfect express workout for fashion week because it's trendy, designed especially for women who want to look good in their clothes, and it's F*%#&ing HARD! You will sweat like a pregnant pig and hate life for 60 minutes, but you'll fall in love with the results and be satisfied with a full body workout that's just as good or better as your favorite cardio & plyometrics fitness class. I'm betting on "better", but you can be the judge of that because I'm giving away 4 of the Fusion Fitness Dream Body DVDs.

All you have to do is leave a comment below telling me about the craziest/edgiest outfit you've ever worn for a fashion related event. Even better if it was an outfit you wore for a fitness event or workout! 4 winners will be announced on Friday, September 21st 2012.

Can't wait to read about all your crazy outfits!

Happy Fashion Week to all my New Yorkers and partakers!

Ahh, this is amazing! I love the theme and the inspiration for the photo shoot, as well as the Fashion Week details. This all brings me back to my days as a fashion major - I still love the NYFW time of year :)

The craziest outfit I've ever worn for a fashion-related event was when I attended a fashion show for a charity event back in 1998. I was 10 years old. I wore bright neon green platform jelly shoes - the heel was clear and filled with water and glitter, with a little Statue of Liberty in them. I wore the shoes with a black fancy party dress. I clearly remember getting a lot of looks, compliments, and, "wow! those are crazy shoes!" comments. I think I only got away with wearing those because I was 10, haha ;)

MizzFIT September 8th, 2012 1:29AM

Hi Liz,

You crack me up! I'm like envisioning you in these shoes and then find out you were 10 years old! Please tell me you still have them! Fingers crossed that you do!

xoxo,

Liz Stark September 8th, 2012 2:12AM

Haha well unfortunately I had to get rid of them - the jelly material just isn't made to last for the long run :( But thanks to Google image, I found them to show you!

The craziest fitness outfit I wore was the THONG that went over the leggings when high impact aerobics was really popular. Now we wear the THONG under our garments not on top of them. Too funny when I look back on that era when it was popular!

I thought you looked amazing during fashion week. I even viewed the video and the GLAM party looked like so much fun!

MizzFIT September 9th, 2012 3:13AM

Liz,

Those are the best shoes ever. Secretly, I wish you still wore them. I'm just gonna say it right now, you have WON one of the DVD's. That was a definitely a winning comment. THANK YOU. I adore you.

Hi Sharon,

First of all, you are such a sweetheart! Thanks for the kind words and for watching the vid. The party was lots of fun...and I was even in bed by 11pm. I was so tired that day. But happy that I got to do SO MUCH! Okay, regarding the thongs bit...I remember those days. So glad they're over and so crazy that you rocked it! This is definitely a good outfit that classifies as CRAZY! It was so "in" then, and that's all that matters. I love how we can laugh at what we used to wear...it makes fashion so much fun! Thanks for your comment!

I love the pink jammy pack!

MizzFIT September 10th, 2012 4:17PM

Hi Maui Shen,

I was wondering if you were going to comment on the JammyPack. I'm actually featuring the Jammy in an upcoming tv segment and will never forget that you're the guy who introduced me to the brand. Gotta love the Jammy!!!! Thanks Shen!

Theresa September 10th, 2012 9:16PM

Dear MizzFit,

I discovered your blog a few months ago and have been so impressed and inspired - Latinos palante!!

My "craziest" outfit is also my most tragic. In grade school, the dance theme of the year was the Olympics. My mom couldn't grasp that I was probably supposed to show up in leg warmers or sweats to a dance, so in true Latina fashion, she commissioned and had a pink/beige (think Cinderella on steroids) dress with puffy sleeves and lots of tulle made for me. I showed up wearing that and a medal I received for reading the most books that month - needless to say everyone else was wearing leg warmers and sweats. I'm stil recovering (!!) but have definitely been inspired by all of your stylish ideas!

MizzFIT September 10th, 2012 9:56PM

Hi Theresa,

LATINOS PALANTE!!!! Indeed! So glad you found me, chica! Your outfit is hysterical. I bet you were mortified but are you able to now think back and laugh? Does your mom laugh? I can imagine you were a bit frustrated...that kind of thing happened to me endlessly as a kid (esp in highschool). Well, we survived, thank god. Love your comment and so glad to now be connected with you. Enviandote un gran abrazo! (Virtually)

xoxo,
MizzFIT

Theresa September 11th, 2012 1:17AM

We laugh every time we watch the Olympics and I point out that none of the women on the podium have ball gowns! But awkward outfits were a way of life through college and my gym clothes have been pretty terrible. The gym I go to is like a Lululemon fashion show and I'm typically rocking ancient Champion gear and college t-shirts. ;-) I'm super curvy (and trying to get fit) and my boricua booty puts K. Kardashian's to shame! lol All of which is why I've been loving your blog, videos, and exercise and outfit ideas!!

Enviandote un gran abrazo también!

xoxo,
Theresa

MizzFIT September 11th, 2012 3:38AM

Hi Theresa,

Sounds like you have a great butt! I have a bubble butt. I rock it like a rock star :) Just because you're curvy doesn't mean you can't look amazing at the gym. We have to dress to flatter our assets and feel good about ourselves (not what's going on with everyone else). I love that you're hitting the gym and that you have such a great sense of humor. These 2 things will make you live longer and smile a lot. Keep it up! Thanks for sharing your story...I feel like I have a new friend!

Lauren September 12th, 2012 7:53PM

Hi! My craziest outfit for a workout was in a college for an Aerobics class I was taking for a credit. We had to dress up and teach the class in groups of two and our theme was Olympics. Each person in the class dressed as a different olympic event and mine was synchronized swimming! It was a little touch doing weights with those silly caps on. Thanks!

MizzFIT September 12th, 2012 9:24PM

Hi Lauren,

Interesting. SO wait, you got to take a fitness class in college for actual credit? That's kind of awesome. Can you elaborate? I haven't heard of this happening anywhere and wish I could've done that back in my student days. Thanks for your comment!

Liz Stark September 18th, 2012 5:08PM

Ahh I'm just now seeing this!! Really??? I adore and admire you!

MizzFIT September 18th, 2012 7:21PM

Yes, REALLY! You are one of my favorites, babe!

Liz Stark September 19th, 2012 12:31AM

Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's been a stressful few weeks, with grad school and preparing for a dance competition (this Friday!!), so this news has just made my week :)))

Lauren L. September 19th, 2012 12:50AM

"Crazy" and "edgy" aren't really my style (I'm sort of boring!) but I did join my home state's "Team Beef" which is a group that promotes the benefits of eating lean beef as a source of protein as good fuel for endurance training. When I run races, I wear a cheesy jersey with the words "beef" and "It's what for dinner" printed on all sides of the little shirt. It is fun to hear the reaction from other runners yelling out about "Team Beef" and even more fun if you're running with other members of the team, because then people certainly see the matching shirts!

MizzFIT September 19th, 2012 6:53AM

Liz,

You are very welcome, my dear!

Bianca Jade/MizzFIT

MizzFIT September 19th, 2012 6:55AM

Hi Lauren L.,

How about "Where's the BEEF?"...or wait, are you too young to remember that or even know what i'm talking about? It's one of my favorite commercials from when I was a kid! Thanks for leaving your comment. Love Team Beef! I'm going to start Team Beef Jerkey.

Theresa September 19th, 2012 8:51PM

I saw Lauren's comment above about taking a fitness class in college. I went to Montclair State and was required to take fitness. You could choose anything, so I took tennis and yoga - and was decent at both! :) And update: it's not cray-cray, but I just bought my first pair of Lululemon pants. How comfy/flattering are they?? And they didn't make me feel all gross like my usual cheapies. Baby steps . . . You inspire me! ;-) xoxo Theresa

MizzFIT September 20th, 2012 9:06AM

Theresa,

The only fitness required at my college (Cornell University) was a swim test, which I nearly failed because I was so nervous that entire first week of school. It was so awful that I even hate revisiting the memory. Ugh! Montclair State seems to have a better approach. And girl, the only thing cray-cray is that it took you THIS LONG to get your 1st pair of Lulu workout pants. ENJOY THEM! And yes, they are super flattering! Happy I could be a part of the inspiration process but you're really the one who deserves all the credit!

Theresa September 20th, 2012 3:01PM

You're a Big Red girl!? Me too! I went there for law school, '07, and loved it. I'm actually going to homecoming this weekend! Say it with me: Latinos palante!!! xoxo!

MizzFIT September 20th, 2012 3:31PM

Theresa,

Big Red girl all the way! Wow, you went there for Law School? You're one smart cookie. Have fun this weekend and I will be there with you in espiritu! So glad we're becoming fit friends. Would love to meet you soon!

xoxo,

Mizz

Theresa September 24th, 2012 2:12AM

Hi MizzFit,

What a long weekend! The law school is under construction and there's a Starbucks in Collegetown now - otherwise, things are mostly the same at Cornell!

I make a trip to NYC about once a month to visit girlfriends. I might be going this coming weekend. Would LOVE to coordinate and meet you too!

xoxo,
Theresa

megan September 24th, 2012 3:09AM

Such a fun article MizzFIT! The roller skates were the perfect accessory and also reminded me of the craziest outfit I ever wore. It was for a fashion themed birthday party at a roller rink when I was in 5th grade. I wore a black and white checkered romper from Contempo with neon checkered tights with a Body Glove splatter paint wind breaker to top it off. Best part, I was NOT trying to be funny I was trying to look COOL! Not sure I pulled it off but it's always fun to dress the part!

Thanks for another great article and I love when a bunch of pictures tied to it too!

MizzFIT September 25th, 2012 9:51AM

Hi Theresa,

Yes, let's grab coffee before the November chill hits. After next week should work for me ;) Glad you had fun in Ithaca and got to see all your friends!

MizzFIT September 25th, 2012 9:55AM

Hey there Megan,

Whoa! Blast from the past! CONTEMPO CASUALS was where the fashion was at! I used to beg my mom to take me shopping there. The clothes was soooo funny (in retrospect) and at the time, just so damn hip. I can't believe I actually wore it, lol! Thank you so much for sharing your crazy outfit story and the only thing missing is the picture of you skating in it! Do you have one?
