How to Dress Sporty-Chic for Chilly, Fall Weather



Summer is gone. Deal with it.

My therapy is fitness fashion and Autumn is one of the best times to get sporty-chic! To achieve a sporty-chic look all you have to do is incorporate stylish, athletic pieces into your non-fitness wardrobe. I know…it sounds crazy to mix your gym clothes (which at some point have gotten sweaty) with your street wear but that’s part of the fun and THE ADVENTURE OF IT ALL! (Just do your laundry and you're good)

I think Fall is the perfect time to roll out your sporty-chic style because most high quality sportswear is designed with moisture wicking fabric, which is optimal for climate changes. The pieces I’m going to show you from adidas are made with Climawarm technology that keeps you both warm and dry as temperatures drop and you work up a sweat.

Here are 3 ways to achieve a sporty-chic look for Fall:

1. Pair a fun or loud graphic “statement” tee with a textured jacket or blazer.

I love my Run Wild tee from adidas. It expresses my passion for running but it’s also perfectly fitted along the torso (with skinny sleeves) to wear under my white sequin bolero jacket.

There’s no rhyme or reason to the combo, which is why it works. I can wear them together with boot-cut jeans or a black leather skinny pant (for next-level-sexiness). Either way, I’m warm, stylish and showing off my sporty side! Don’t forget to add at least 1 accessory that matches your statement piece. A chunky jeweled bracelet will do the trick!

2. Put your going-out look on the right "track".

Track jackets have made a comeback and they’re FRESHER than ever! Especially paired with a sexy mini skirt and heels. I guarantee you’ll feel hot to trot in the sportiest of ways. I love how my adidas Originals Firebird Track Jacket looks styled with my multi-colored body-con mini-skirt. It’s a creative, sexy-smart look for a chilly night. Bunch up the sleeves to ¾ length and pile on your favorite baubles!

I'm pretty loyal to designer, Ted Rossi, who makes the edgiest leather/studded jewelry and handbags. I stack, mix and match his bracelets to all my sportswear.

I’m swooning over its moto-style and crazy sapphire blue leopard print. Just throw it over a little black dress or perhaps a leather mini-skirt with a solid racerback tank. Add silver heels and MEOOOOW! This is a jacket you won’t want to take off!  Expect random acts of petting!

3. Reinvent how you wear a hoodie!

Just because it’s a hoodie doesn’t mean it can’t be worn beyond the gym. Stay toasty as the temperature drops by mixing a Tech Fleece Melange Pullover Hoodie from adidas with rolled up skinny jeans and a pair of flashy sneaks (like my gold, pointy-toed adidas longer sold, boo!). Underneath all you need is a simple tee or long, comfy tank.

My pullover hoodie from adidas is clever for Fall because the inner fleece lining is ridiculously soft and it fits like a tailored medium weight sweatshirt. You won’t overheat in it, feel weighed down or look baggy. It’s the cutest and most playful sweatshirt I own.

For a touch of funky (and to keep the most important part of your body warm), add a skullcap with an unexpected print. I recommend toting a bag that doesn’t compete too much with this kind of outfit, for instance the one I’m holding from Old Navy which lends a bit of sophistication to my otherwise youthful look.

All it takes is a little creativity to go sporty-chic.

When I do it, people comment with "you're so hipster". But I like to think of it as showing off my active, energetic lifestyle. I say, take advantage of the changing weather by experimenting with layering and dressing up your favorite sportswear! The fitness part would be the leggings and sporty tank or even a longsleeve top; and then the more fashion part to wear with it would be a nice (but casual) sweater and boots (I have 2 particular pairs that I've been wearing for years - fabulous investments and they work with fitness-y clothes and "regular" clothes).

LOVE idea #3. I live in hoodies in the fall and now that I am a new mom, I feel like it has been my "uniform" but with comfy pants I hate to say. I am totally going to rock my hoodies with skinny jeans for now on. No more mom unifrom for me!

I think the fitted jeans, like you say, made me feel tailored enough to NOT feel like I was wearing sweats or looking all baggy. So yeah, do it up and let me know how your version works out!
