WE ALL NEED A LIFT

Whether you're flat as a board or run with a bounce, this selection of my favorite sports bras will style and support your girls. They're all tried and tested by my minimally endowed self with the help of boob inserts to ensure a "universal" fit. That's possibly TMI (too much information) but I'm looking out for everyone here.

BEST OF THE BEST

I highly recommend all Moving Comfort sports bra styles. I love them because they have built-in contoured cups which give small girls a huge boost and bustier girls a sexy lift. They're are also made with UV protection fabric and wicking for odor control. You really can't go wrong with this brand. If you don't see a style you like above, check ZAPPOS for more Moving Comfort options.

I'm also very excited about the Cardio Sports Bra by PolarUSA. It has a built-in heart rate monitor to help you measure your workout intensity and track your results. But seriously, I love every sports bra shown above/listed below. They all take care of business without skimping on style.

Great article but it would be good if the bras were broken down so we know which ones are better for smaller vs. larger chests. I have a large chest and finding the right sports bra is always a challenge.

Inserts! There's an idea. They probably help with the bounce issue. Is the Ready to Run Bra Top by Athleta really for running? I like that your selection is not too pricey.
I like sewing and working out so it felt natural to me to make my own sports tops. They're coming out really well :)

Sparky! For some reason I'm just not reading this comment! Sorry I did not respond earlier...I somehow overlooked it. Anyway, you're totally right and I will definitely do another post with recommendations for bras that are best for certain chest sizes. Thanks for the great suggestion and let me know if you find some designs that you want to share with readers. Hope you're well and CA weather is treating you right!

Melanie,
I was so excited to find your comment on this post because you are so talented, creative and FIT! I went to your website and love your sports bra designs. I left you a comment on your site about how I'm dying to try one out. Hopefully we can connect because I'd love to feature one of your designs in my next sports bra review. Looking forward to seeing what else you have up your sleeve in terms of fitness fashion! Thanks for reaching out!

Gee.. Thanks! I'm glad YOU like my stuff because I believe you have great taste.
I spend my days and nights creating new designs. I have many that I didn't photograph yet. I'm waiting for a sunny day in Lima (this is the coldest winter in over 40 years!).
I'll make an effort and try and take those pics today ;)

Thanks for the compliment, Melanie! You're such a hard worker. Are you in Lima, Peru? I'll be in Peru for a wedding and can't wait to see the country for the first time! What made you decide to start designing your own sports bras? Looking forward to seeing your new pics once they're up!!!

Melanie September 10th, 2010 2:53AM

You're welcome and thanks for YOUR compliments. I'm indeed in Lima. I hope the wedding is in summertime! Yesterday was such a grey day, the skies covered with clouds which is the norm during the winter here. I was expecting one of those freak sunny day but I guess I'll just have to take the pics indoors.

I don't forget your question about how I started making the bras. You made me think about it and the answer seems so extent that I will have to write it in another message!

MizzFIT September 11th, 2010 5:38AM

Well, it sounds like an interesting story and I look forward to hearing it! Send me pics once you have them ready. I'll be in Peru in the winter...I guess I should bring warm clothes, right? Maybe I'll get to meet you there!

Hi Melanie,
I just found this thread because I am currently living in Lima and my sports bra just died! I am large...size 32 E or F, and so I need a really good sports bra. Do you know of any bra stores in Lima that carry heavy-duty sports bras? I have been training for the Nike 10K and suddenly I'm bouncing again! Very sad!

Melanie September 18th, 2010 10:45AM

Warm and cool clothes. I was in a tiny town in the mountains a couple of days ago and it was like summer over there. Closer to the coast it's grey, cloudy and chilly. It would be awesome if we could meet!

Melanie September 18th, 2010 10:57AM

Hi Katykat,
32 isn't large at all!
The stores that come to my mind are: Nike, Marathon, Ripley, Saga Falabella at the Jockey Plaza Shopping Center. There may be other sports specialty stores in there. I'm not familiar with other neighborhoods but you will find the same stores all around the city for sure. I would go for brand names such as Adidas or Nike for sturdiness due to your cup size.
I'm just going to start making patterns for large cup sizes for a friend of mine.
Good luck with the 10K on 10/10/2010! If you have more questions go ahead..

I'll let you know my travel plans closer to the date of my trip! Looking forward to it!
