FALL IS COMING. TIME TO GEAR UP!

I love Fall (especially here in New York City) but it always comes a bit too early. Save yourself from goosebumps and an itchy-sore throat by dressing more appropriately for the inevitable temperature drop. Put your summer stuff away for next year and check out these Fall trends that you can easily plug into your fitness wardrobe. FALL FITNESS FASHION TRENDS:

* Long Board Shorts *

They've graced the runway from Gryphon to Diane Von Furstenberg's shows and now it's time to wear them where the make the most sense-- in the water and at the gym! From a functional standpoint, surfer shorts are lightweight and dry fast. I absolutely love the late summer vibe they exude which is a nice way to transition into Fall--just pair with a long sleeve moisture-wicking top or rashguard. I know board shorts seem odd worn indoors, but I say DO IT! Who says splashes can't be made out of water?

* Open Back Pullover Tops *

It's all about the BACK this fall, and activewear designers are determined to help you show it off. This season you can find a range of back-revealing styles but my favorites are pictured below because they layer beautifully with a sports bra. All 3 styles have a peek-a-boo quality to them and the less they match your sports bra, the better! Pullovers are great for outdoor workouts and chilly gyms. I like to wear mine for the first 15 minutes of my yoga practice until I heat up. They're also quite sexy to walk around in post-workout. The ivory colored Calvin Klein pullover from Bodywear Boutique is irresistible.

* Leather Gym Baggage *

Autumn and leather go hand in hand, which means your canvas and nylon gym bags have to go! This season it's all about soft, white leather. It's neutral enough to match your fitness attire but will stand out against the sea of black bags at the gym. Designate a bag like the one below strictly for the gym and leave your high-maintenance glam bag (i.e. YSL, Minkoff, Chanel) at home. Designer purses at the gym are so last year. A leather duffel--vintage or new--will give you an effortless edge that many will envy. I'd rock this duffel with Cargo Capris, a colorful workout tank, a pair of retro-style Puma sneaks and a denim jacket. Done and done!

* Tough Rubber & Glass *

Water bottles typically aren't cool. The stainless steel ones are bulky and their screw tops are annoying. Plus, don't you hate that metal taste they give your water? Ick! This Fall, Takeya is my saving grace because they spare me from buying Poland Spring bottles and feeling like a planet trasher. They're top of the line water bottles that work as hard as you do at the gym. Tough, stylish and they don't break when dropped. The perfect accessory, if you ask me.
