My Thoughts on Victoria Secret's Fairly New Fitness Line Called VSX SEXY SPORT

Victoria Secret VSX

What's VSX?

Well, Victoria's Secret decided it was high time to jump into the sportswear market and designed a sweat-worthy collection they're calling VSX.

So far from what I've seen, I'm loving the padded sports bras. Who's going to say no to molded cups and padding for smooth shaping and lift? Not me.

Too Safe?

Gotta say, I'm feeling like Victoria's Secret played it safe with this line. I kind of wished they had called it VSXXX and made the line a naughtier. Or taken some inspiration from the Red Light District and all it's amazingness. I'm not saying it should be dirty or trashy-lacey, just more risque in a fun and wearable kind of way. Right now it seems like the only thing making the line sexy are the models. Just sayin' it would be nice to see something different for a change. And I had high sexy hopes for VSX. But that doesn't mean I won't snag one of their push up bras...just hope it delivers on extra cleavage!

What are your thoughts?

Would you shop this collection and do you trust Victoria's Secret when it comes to workout clothes? I'm curious to hear what you think and whether you're a fan or not. Leave a comment to win a MizzFIT t-shirt (1 random winner will be chosen in the next week or so).

I love the colors of the tops but here is my beef...most fitness wear companies do all of their bottoms in black. BLACK..I am sick of black bottoms. "They" say it is because it is slimming or women want to draw attention away from the bottom but I say "no way!" We work hard for these booties give me some pink shortie shorts once in a while! I thought for sure VSX would have done this, as many body confident women will be buying this line. :(
Thanks for letting me rant! Keep up the awesome work.

anonymous September 6th, 2011 3:25AM

@SmartCassie....BodyRock Sport has lots of colorful bottoms. Check out The Parvati Booty Shorts for hot pink!

Bianca, I agree that they played it way too safe. This might as well be a Champion ad!

Monica Ortiz September 6th, 2011 4:48AM

I think your spot on with VS playing it safe. I'm too sure about the fit of the bras though. Since I'm bustier I tend to buy my sports brasfrom Lululemon. I also agree with Cassie and would love some colors! Overall, I think I'll give it a try since I love lounging around the VS Pink sweats in the fall!

Erica September 6th, 2011 5:04AM

I actually bought a tank top with built-in bra from the vsx line almost two years ago. The line has been around for a while, but they just haven't done anything with it. Funny enough, when I first bought the top, I never wore it and it got lost in my workout clothes drawer. Since moving to NYC and getting back into yoga, I have broken the top back out and I love it. I actually just made a note the other day to look up the VSX line to see if they still carry this one so I can order more. Like Monica, I am bustier, so I need something with a REAL built in bra - no the bs "shelf" bras that don't cover my boobs. Thanks for posting this and making it easier for me (were you reading my mind??)!

MizzFIT September 6th, 2011 1:51PM

Hi Cassie,

First of all, thanks for the support and I'll keep writing as long as you keep reading :) I whole-heartedly agree with you. Although I must admit, black and charcoal colored fitness pants/capris dominate my wardrobe. But I do have a few pairs of colored workout pants, which I love to rock. I think the issue is that not enough sportswear brands are making cool pants in fun colors for a range of female sizes. Once a brand steps up to the plate, I'm sure we'll see more colored bottoms trending. Otherwise you and I can wear them proudly!

Thanks for your comment!

MizzFIT September 6th, 2011 1:54PM

Hi Monica,

Can't knock it until you try it, right? I can't say I love 100% of what I see but there's definitely a few pieces I wouldn't mind adding to my wardrobe.

Let me know if you end up buying anything from the collection and how you think it fits.

MizzFIT September 6th, 2011 2:00PM

Hi Erica!

Was hoping I'd see a comment from you. Yep, VSX has been around but they're just now officially launching a complete collection of their sportswear. It's fun to see them enter this market and give women more choices that just Lululemon or Nike. We need variety, right? And I totally hear you about "shelf bras". I've got a small chest and they don't do me any favors either. I prefer the support and shaping. Shelf bras tend to give women "banana boob" which is not attractive and even worse, it's painful to have your boobs bouncing around instead of comfortable held in place...with a bit of cleavage to boot. Hope you find that other VSX bra top you're looking for.

Always love reading your comments,

Natasha September 7th, 2011 10:53PM

I guess I am in the minority. I really don't want any supersexy workout clothes and I actually kind of like these. While I don't LOVE everything, I am definitely interested in the sports bras. I am hoping that since it is VS that the bra will be excellent and have sufficient support.

Thanks so much for the post, doll!

MizzFIT September 8th, 2011 4:22AM

Hi Natasha,

You're not in the minority at all, girl! We all have different preferences. And sometimes it's completely based on mood. At least I know it is with me. Sometimes I'm more in the mood to dress conservatively cute than all sexy/revealing. I'll be checking out the VSX sports bras too. I'd love to hear your thoughts once you try one on. I'll report back too!

Nicole September 8th, 2011 9:40AM

At first glance, VSX reminds me a lot of Bebe’s exercise apparel line, PH8. I used to be a huge fan of Bebe until I tried my first pair of lululemon pants. After that, my exercise apparel drawer was forever changed. I do not anticipate purchasing anything fitness-related from VS. I think I’ll stick to purchasing with what they do best…lingerie. Out of curiosity, have you heard of abi & joseph? They have some great wraps, tanks, and accessories! Their pieces are simplistic in their design and color palate, but I love to pair their items with some of my other favorite brands!

Ginger September 9th, 2011 3:42AM

I have to agree. It's pretty boring. Not a great selection of colors. I would like to say however, I am a huge long time fan of their yoga pants. I have one in every color and I love them! I have very often wondered why they never had "sports" bras being a bra company. As a woman with pretty big jugs, I like that I can get a bathing suit that comes in your bra size and not "M", It's nice to have that reassurance that your nips won't bust out at the beach if you breath to hard.
Will it be the same in the case of the sports bras? We'll see.

MizzFIT September 9th, 2011 5:49AM

Hi Ginger,

Tell me about these yoga pants. What's their poison? And by the way, you just cracked me up so hard I nearly fell off my couch. If only Victoria Secret's R&D team was reading all these comments. I think they'd learn a lot. Because we all have some type of boob issue that needs addressing.

Thanks for your comment, sweetie!

MizzFIT September 9th, 2011 5:53AM

Hi Nicole,

Gotta go with what works for you, right? Send me the link to abi & joseph and I will definitely check them out. They sound really intriguing. Thanks so much for adding to this conversation and I always love hearing from you!

Lisa September 9th, 2011 7:07AM

I agree - looks like so many other lines that are out there, just a different name. Might be comfortable, but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it. Actually, as a runner, I'd feel a little weird wearing workout clothes from VS. Seems like it's just a tactic to diversify their portfolio so VS can be a complete wardrobe.

Nicole September 9th, 2011 9:13AM

Their website is Hope you find their brand as interesting as I do!

MizzFIT September 9th, 2011 9:20AM

Hi Lisa,

I think you make a great point. I'm gonna hold my breadth for Very Sexy Cupcakes. Now that would be nice diversifying, no?

Love your comment!

MizzFIT September 9th, 2011 9:26AM

"Interesting" is an understatement. I love Abi & Joseph's elegant simplicity. It's like Splits59 but with more of a dancer's sensibility (meaning less sporty and runner-oriented). Thank you so much for telling me about them. There are not many people who know a brand that I don' I'm impressed, girlie! Hope you're having a fab day.

Nicole September 9th, 2011 9:34AM

I’m thrilled I could introduce you to abi & joseph! I was recently accepted as one of their brand ambassadors. It’s exciting to help promote a brand that I love to someone like you who can expose their apparel to a larger audience. Keep a look out for my upcoming article on their Lifestyle/Community Page about Barre Fitness! Hope you’re having a great day too!

MizzFIT September 10th, 2011 8:51AM

Please send me the article once it's out! Have a great weekend!

Maria H. September 18th, 2011 7:51AM

When I saw the collection from the link you provided, my first thought was "meh." While I don't necessarily want revealing/sexy workout clothes, I have to agree with Kelly that this collection looks like something Champion would make. I am a fan of Athleta gear; it's not "sexy" but to me Athleta is stylish and feminine, and the models are real athletes (or at least athletic looking yet feminine) which to me is way more inspiring than using a model who looks like she might break with a 10# dumbbell. I like Lulemon too but it's way too expensive. The Abi and Joseph gear looks really nice! Do they ship to the US?

Nicole September 18th, 2011 9:42AM

Maria - Yes, abi & joseph does ship to the US! I've bought several pieces from them. I wear their wraps almost every week.

MizzFIT September 18th, 2011 2:35PM

Hi Maria,

OMG, so true about the models. They could make a trash bag look hot. And your observation about Athleta is spot on. They have the most beautiful and healthy looking models. That's called smart marketing...because ideally that's what we're all aiming for. Thanks for commenting!

Tamara September 19th, 2011 1:27AM

Agree with Maria too. What do they have the models lifting in the video? Probably a hollow pole made of tinfoil! Some of the sports bras look supportive, though, might have to go in the store and check them out. For now I'm sticking to Lululemon, and pretty psyched about my $17 Old Navy workout pants that arrived in the mail yesterday!

MizzFIT September 19th, 2011 8:40AM

I absolutely LOVE Lululemon sports bras, especially the V bras. Truly the best! And I always use their padding inserts as well. Quite a deal you got on those pants it seems! Enjoy!

MizzFIT September 21st, 2011 7:38AM

Time 2 Pick A Winner! Congratzz to Ginger and her jugs! Thanks to everyone who left a comment. Please keep sharing your thoughts. You don't know how much I really love reading them!

Most appreciatively,

You're my winner! Reach out to me, girl!

mailinda April 16th, 2012 4:38AM

I'm a runner (30-40 miles a week). I am disappointed with their exercise shorts. The colors (pink and black) are great! But the cut is so.... UNORIGINAL.

The shorts are also TOO LONG IMHO. I can go to Nike outlet and get the SAME full butt coverage for $25 - not $40.

It has to be a bit original - and mimick more of their yoga shorts line in fit / style / design. The shorts they have in their exercise wear - I could buy it at church.

MizzFIT April 16th, 2012 9:36AM

Hi Mailinda,

Thank you so much for your feedback on the VSX line. Funny how shorts are too long considering it's Victoria's Secret! I hope you found some shorts you like elsewhere (for the right price) and that you DIDN'T wear them to Church!!! Unless it was a sporty prayer session of some sort, lol!
