Kathy Smith Is On A Quest To Be Ageless Not Perfect. Win Her Autographed Workout DVD!

Fitness - Celeb interviews

She's one of the godmothers of fitness as I know it. She's incredible because she's kept herself in top shape throughout the years, and by no means through sacrifice. Kathy loves hiking, skiing, strength training, dancing...and eating! She can't workout without her favorite energy boosting smoothie. She truly defines "fun" healthy living, and I've always wanted to be just like her.

I've traveled across the country to work out with her (at IdeaFIT) and then begged Acacia Fitness for an interview with her. I nearly stalked Kathy Smith to bring you her story and point of view, so you better read it!

Find out why perfection isn't a priority for Kathy...and why "balance" is a part of her whole fitness shtick. Even the moves in her 2 newest workout DVDs incorporate balancing. You'd be surprised how hard these exercises are!

I still can't get over Kathy's amazing bod. But the truth is we can ALL have it. You've just gotta want it.

Well, then you're in for a treat because I'm giving away 4 of her "Ageless" workout DVDs, all autographed by her. All you have to do is read my Celebrity Sweat interview with Kathy Smith and then come back here and leave a comment below telling me what you found most inspiring about it. Is there a tip from the interview that you plan to follow or something you just took to heart? Spell it out below because I'm picking 4 winners on October 10th, 2012.

And just to confirm, I've tried both of Kathy's Ageless DVDs and they're thoroughly sweat-inducing. Staying Strong really worked the back of my legs and Total Body Turnaround is an eclectic mix of moves. I like to work out to both DVDs barefoot for more of a challenge. But what can I say? I have a girl crush on Mizz Kathy so she could be juggling pancakes and I'd still be a fan.

I love Kathy Smith and have been a fan of hers forever! The most inspiring was when running was a stress reliever for her. That is the #1 reason why I work out. I would love the Total Body Turnaround because I'm over the age of 40 and these DVD's would be great to add to my collection.

Lindy September 28th, 2012 4:33AM

Most inspiring is that she isn't limited to inside workouts, I love that she lives in the mountains of Utah and goes hiking! Girl, she knows you can burn some serious calories while hiking; and the fresh air and nature is therapeutic.
She said, "I also love Lululemon for their jackets and tops." and I can totally see her in those stylish bra styled tops. BTW, how DO you pronounce, Lululemon? I died laughing at someone saying it with a Jamaican Rasta-accent. Maybe I'm the doofus?

MizzFIT September 28th, 2012 6:35AM

Hi Sharon,

Gosh, you and I just have so much in common, lady! We both love Kathy Smith and we both find running relaxing. Are we the same person? Good choice on the DVD pick. Thanks for entering the giveaway!

MizzFIT September 28th, 2012 7:11AM

Hi Sharon,

Oh yes, Kathy Smith is totally an outdoorsy fitness lover. She talks about that a lot. Lululemon is pronounced "lulu" (like the name) plus the word "lemon" like the fruit. Now just combine both words and that's how you say it! Fingers crossed that you win the dvd!

Theresa September 28th, 2012 11:54PM

Hi MizzFit,

I think this is great! Fab interview!

She is very inspiring - I'm always trying to get my mom to work out more so I might get them for her! (Thanks again for the Dream Body DVD!!)

MizzFIT September 29th, 2012 1:44AM

HI Theresa,

Did you receive the DVD yet? I'm waiting on my picture! LOL! You should enter this giveaway too as I'm picking 4 winners. Perhaps a gift for your mama! Just tell me what you found most inspiring about the interview :)

Theresa September 29th, 2012 6:36AM

Hi MizzFit -

Not yet, hopefully tomorrow!

The most inspiring part for me was how she used exercise to deal with her parents passing. I struggle to fit exercise in as a daily part of my routine, but every time I've hit a rough patch - or a really rough patch - I've always turned to working out. I was in the best shape of my life during one of the saddest times of my life, so I was definitely moved that she turned that dark period into a thriving career! Obesity and diabetes run in my family so I'm really pushing to finally commit to a healthy, consistent routine!

You'll definitely get your pic! I can't wait to try it out. Thanks again!

Rebekah September 29th, 2012 7:31PM

I loved to hear that Kathy is into hiking. That's my favorite outdoor activity as well. And I'll have to remember what she said about fully using the machine at the gym. I've been caught texting on the treadmill now and then. Oops!

MizzFIT September 30th, 2012 8:13PM

Hi Rebekah,

I need to get more into HIKING myself. I absolutely love being outdoors but haven't spend much time hiking lately. I was in Napa earlier this summer with a bad case of allergies and had to stay in the car while everyone else enjoyed a short hike. So lame! You're not the only one that multi-tasks on the exercise machines, so don't feel bad. Just make more of an effort to get outside before winter hits! Thanks for leaving a comments and you're not entered for the giveaway!

Hi T,

So many things you wrote, I can relate to.

You wrote: "...every time I’ve hit a rough patch - or a really rough patch - I’ve always turned to working out."

I hear you, lady. Breakups with boyfriends are when fitness becomes the best friend I have. Even job loss or a losing someone to sickness. I think the important part is keeping up the routine once you get happier. Know what I mean?

You wrote: "Obesity and diabetes run in my family so I’m really pushing to finally commit to a healthy, consistent routine!"

Girl, I have the same issues in my family. I find that talking about these issues with my relatives helps me kind of team up with them to fight what's working against us genetically. When they see me working hard, they feel like they should. And vice versa. Excuses are for the lady and hopeless. Goals are for revolutionaries--something we can ALL BE.

Your comments always compel me think about my own story and share even more with you. Thank you for being so easy to connect with and open up to!

Lindy October 2nd, 2012 3:50AM,did you respond to me (Lindy) or to Sharon? Seemed like you answered my question about lululemon and Kathy liking the outdoors.

Theresa October 3rd, 2012 1:17AM

Hi MizzFit,

Thanks so much for your comments! For me, one of the hard parts of trying to get into a routine is that there is so much I know I could be doing, it's overwhelming and don't know where to start. I've got DVDs, a rebounder (which I just used), I take classes at Lithe Method in Philly and try to walk as much as possible but I also want to start yoga. I just need to get consistent and stop acting like every meal is my last, and I'll be good to go! ;-)

As an aside, I saw your "Refrigerator Look Book" on Well and Good!! It's great to have a role model with a reasonable diet!

And . . . I got my DVD!! Work has been beyond insane this week but it's first on my list to do this weekend and I will send you your pic!

MizzFIT October 3rd, 2012 5:00AM

Ooops, Lindy, I replied to you but accidentally wrote Sharon's name. Mistake on my part! That's what happens when I type too fast because I have so much I want to say that i just try and get it out really fast. I also have ADD. Just another reason why fitness has changed my life. It's amazing for focusing ADD-ers and making us be more goal oriented. Now, how are YOU!??? What's new?

MizzFIT October 3rd, 2012 5:11AM

Hi darling Theresa!
THANK YOU for your sweet words about my Well & Good feature. I, too, loved that I was portrayed just as I am. Tonight my boyfriend and I had blueberry waffles for dessert that we made together. It was so much fun and so filling, but you've gotta be a little bad sometimes!!! So glad to hear you received the DVD too! I'm dying to hear what you think of it and if you feel the same as me and end up cursing at your tv, haha!
And yes, don't forget the pic! You are the best!

Laurie October 8th, 2012 12:34AM

Asking about the "Total Body Turnaround" DVD was most inspiring to me. Kathy said the workout was created for age 45 and older and I am 53 so that gave me hope that I can "turn it around"! Great interview!

MizzFIT October 8th, 2012 6:10AM

Hi Laurie,

Hope? You've got much more than "Hope" going for you, lady. Cause you can pick up fitness at any time in your life. I think more than hope, you need to have faith and commitment. And once you have those, anything is possible. I already know you can "turn it around". Remember, a little "stylin' up 2 shape up" goes a long way too. Thanks for leaving your comment and entering my giveaway!

Laurie October 12th, 2012 2:55AM

Yes, I need faith and commitment to turn it around. I am encouraged by your blog, I am not just saying that to win since the contest is over! Thanks for replying, Laurie

Sarah Lesser October 12th, 2012 4:23AM

Hi MizzFIT,

Kathy's journey to fit after losing her parents inspires me most. How someone can be strong enough to turn loss into gain (and a career) is pretty incredible. I want to make more "lemonade" out of the lemons in my life.

MizzFIT October 12th, 2012 4:26AM

Hi everyone!

OMG! I'm late to announce the winners...SO SORRY! I'm happy to announce that Laurie, Lindy, Rebekah and Sarah will all be receiving Kathy Smith's autographed Ageless DVD! Congratzz to all of you and thank you for sharing your thoughts. I really look forward to reading them and finding out what motivates you and what you want to change!

Lindy October 12th, 2012 4:32AM

This smith is grateful for the other Smith DVD!!! Thanks, MizzFit ;-)
