Makeup At The Gym? Crazy Or Genius? You Be The Judge.

Fashion/Gift - Fitness

Makeup CAN motivate your fitness routine!

I'm expecting a lot of hater-ation on this post because most women tell me they would NOT wear makeup to the gym. But, I personally believe in putting your best face forward for fitness, whether you're at the gym, on a run or in a class.

I'm not implying that you need to have a full face of makeup to break a sweat. I'm just sayin' that a little of the right kind of makeup goes a long way. I like the even skin tone, color and dimension that makeup gives my face. I'm no beauty queen without it, but feel like one when I'm done up!

Check out the products that we used to make the video you just watched.

Here's the makeup we used and where you can get it:

Tinted Skin Perfector: Maybeline Dream Fresh BB Cream Sheer Tint

Eyeshadow Base/Primer: Too Faced Shadow Insurance

Eye Brow Pencil: Too Faced Brownies Browne-y

Lengthening Mascara:  Loreal Double Extend (waterproof)

Lip Stain: Benefit Cosmetics Benetint Lip Balm SPF 15

Lip Plumper: Too Faced Lip Injection

We ACTUALLY DID workout afterwards!

My makeup artist, Sarah Wood, is truly a pro and a good sport. She knows when she works with me, a sweaty workout is just around the corner! And this time instead of doing touch-ups from the sidelines, she joined in to break a sweat with us! I'm so lucky to have a FIT production team.

Crazy or genius?

When I wear makeup to workout, I feel extra beautiful and empowered. That's why I made the Fitness & Makeup vid for you! Try it out. See how it makes you feel. Now, I'm curious to find out where you stand on the issue. Don't be afraid to let me have it (in the comments section below). Whether you're a hater or a celebrator of fitness makeup, I want your honest opinion!

You make wearing makeup at the gym a beautiful act of genius! I'm not against wearing makeup to the gym - I think it's great to have some makeup on. I find that it even hides some of the redness I get in my face when I'm burning serious calories :D So I say, genius. It's only crazy when someone looks like a drag queen or a clown.

MizzFIT October 12th, 2012 10:07PM

Hi Liz,

Yeah, drag queens and clowns are entertaining! I was wondering if you'd agree on this issue. I actually didn't wear makeup to the gym today and when I looked in the studio mirrors at SLT Yoga, I was like "OH MY!" Just didn't feel as empowered as I usually do when I do wear makeup. Lesson learned.

Love you Liz! --Mizz

I think that if you want to wear it why not! Everyone has there own opinion about everything these days and its the individuals choice. I for one think its genius. Of course not a lot but a little mascara and bronzer never hurt anyone! I don't want to look like I just crawled out of bed or a runway for that matter i think you should always try to look presentable and give a little effort even if you are about to get your sweat on :)

I'm ALLL FOR makeup at the gym!! Ya gotta always put your best self forward, and this video was PERFECT for a gym make up routine!! Thanks bianca!! you're gorgeous lady!!

Jen October 13th, 2012 2:12AM

I wear makeup daily, but if I'm going straight to the gym in the morning, I'll just put on some cover up to hide any red spots and then re-wash my face and put on my makeup after. I have to admit I prefer afternoon classes so that I have makeup on, but I sweat a LOT, so it's best for me to work out in the mornings and not risk clogging my pores.

Paula October 14th, 2012 5:27AM

I love to workout in the morning - for me, it's a great way to start the day. One of the things I DON'T like about AM workouts is that my face looks like it is still sleeping! I notice that although my energy is at it's best in the morning, I feel better about myself in the evening - after I have already put on my make-up and gone about my day. Why haven't I thought to combine these things before?? I think I have had a mental block about wearing make-up to the gym (which seemed acceptable only if I already had it on from earlier that day), but these are great tips for spending just a few moments to wake-up my face and look as good as I feel during my early morning workouts! Can't wait to put these tips to the test! Thanks!

MizzFIT October 15th, 2012 4:59AM

Hi Brittany,

Yup, we think alike! "its the individuals choice" is true but I think people will get a lot more out of the gym if they put a little effort into their "gym game". They gym isn't just for working out. Could be a good place to meet someone special, do business, make friends, become creatively inspired...and the list goes on. So yes, while I don't want to pressure anyone to wear makeup, I encourage women to try it and see if they reap all the rewards that I think they will. As they say: can't knock it until you try it.

Hope you had a spectacular weekend, woman!

MizzFIT October 15th, 2012 5:02AM

Hi Jen,

Makes sense. I sweat a lot too, which is why I use very light foundations (or rather bb cream and tinted moisturizers) so that the makeup doesn't seep into my skin too much or leak onto my clothes. Yuck! That sounds so gross! I do sometimes go to morning workouts without makeup on but typically I like some coverup like you! I wish I had perfectly unblotchy skin but I don't...and who does??? Thanks for leaving a comment! Your routine makes 100% sense to me!

MizzFIT October 15th, 2012 5:04AM

Hi Sweety!

I LOVE HEARING FROM YOU! I couldn't agree more with what you wrote: "Ya gotta always put your best self forward". And I think everyone has their way of doing this. So whether it's with makeup, clothes, a new accessory or even a shift in attitude, you've got to do it. No grouches at the gym, right?!

Stay adorable!

xoxo, Mizz

p.s. I watch all your vids on YouTube. Keep 'em coming!

MizzFIT October 15th, 2012 5:07AM

Hi Paula,

My eyes always look the most tired in the morning. So I have concealer that I use on them. I just don't like looking tired because sometimes it gets to my head and makes me feel tired too...even if I'm not. There's this gel that "wakes up" your skin or maybe just firms and tightens it...comes in different brands but I love the stuff because it really seems to work. I think it has caffeine in it. It's like a coffee for your face and it's not makeup. So maybe it's worth trying something like that if you're on the fence about makeup. Let me know and I'll send you a list of brand names. Love your comments! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Liz Stark October 16th, 2012 1:07AM

Agreed! I believe that, in order to do your best and feel you best, you should also look your best (whether it's at the gym, at work, or other places).

Liz Stark October 16th, 2012 1:08AM

Lyn October 16th, 2012 3:30AM

Awesome post! I totally agree. I take my hat off to the girls that can comfortably go bare face at the gym, but I personally feel better with a little bit of makeup. I won't go overboard, just mascara, BB cream and a little eyeliner.
A cute outfit is also essential and then I am pumped up to work out!

SusieD October 17th, 2012 5:01AM

Love love the post Mizzfit and all the positive comments ladies! So spot-on and I would not have thought of it like that, you often hear/read sarcastic stuff about girls wearing a full face of makeup to the gym. But most of the girls at my gym wear most definitely make the effort to look their best - without looking silly - and theres nothing wrong with that! I wear a tinted BB cream with mineral sunscreen in it on my walk to the gym, which for my nearly 40 yr old skin is a two-fold saviour.

Keep up the amazing stuff! :) Susan

Sara October 17th, 2012 4:46PM

I love wearing makeup to the gym. I feel like wearing make up to the gym can give you the confidence to kick ass with your workout! I think it is fine as long as you are mindful of what you are doing. A little bit of concealer or tinted moisturizer won't clog your pores like a full face of foundation, I look for powders that are mineral based and just a dab of cheek stain goes a long way. I also make sure to use a makeup cleansing wipe directly after my workout. Letting all that sweat and makeup sit on your face is where the real problems start! Lol

MizzFIT October 17th, 2012 7:56PM

Hi SusieD,

What brand of tinted BB cream do you wear? Thanks and yes, I will attempt to keep entertaining you with fitness trend fun and tips!

MizzFIT October 17th, 2012 7:59PM

Thank GOD you commented! So much of what you said is really important and I'm glad you added your tips to the conversation. I need to start carrying more wipes with me. I love the ones by Fresh Feet. OMG they smell SOOOO GOOD! I dont have much experience with cheek stain but I did recently receive one as gift and I need to try it out and see how it works for me. Just so used to powdering on blush which can get cakey over foundation or powder. Thanks so much for writing me here!

Sara October 18th, 2012 7:13PM

Thanks! I'm so glad you appreciated my comments. I love a cheek stain because it is so natural. I don't want to look like the crazy girl with a full face of makeup at the gym, I just want to look like a better version of myself. So my rule is to not layer anything, that's when everything starts to look caked on and gets gross when you sweat. So if I used concealer under my eyes and on blemishes, my cheeks are free for a cheek stain, etc. I really liketarte's stain. It's like a gel.

MizzFIT October 19th, 2012 11:15PM

Hi Sara,

Gotcha! And I know Tarte's cheek stain well! It's been around for a while and apparently it's a goodie! I'll have to go into Sephora and sample it for myself unless Sarah (my friend/makeup artist) has it. Thank you so much for sharing about your beauty routine. Sounds like you have it figured it out ;)

MizzFIT October 22nd, 2012 7:14PM

Hi SusieD, Right now I'm loving this one by Hydroxatone

It has 40SPF. But I also love the one we used in the video! I usually go back and forth between a few brands since I like to experiment. And some products are honestly a lot the same. For me, it's about finding a good color match to my skin.
Thanks for sharing, girlie!

Paula October 23rd, 2012 2:07PM

This is my second time hearing of Hydroxatone BB Cream. How is the coverage of this compared to that of Maybeline's (the BB Cream used in the video)? The Maybelline product felt more like tinted moisturizer to me then concealer/foundation, but I have not tried Hydroxatone. I would love some product recommendations for the caffeine eye cream too! Coffee for my eyes?? Yes, please!! :)

MizzFIT October 24th, 2012 5:39AM

Hi Paula,

The Hydroxatone BB Cream has a really nice texture and what I find to be a slightly lighter color than the Maybeline BB Cream. And yes, the Maybeline feels more like a tinted moisturizer but the Hydroxatone isn't that far off. I often use it alone without any makeup over it, like today actually! Hydroxatone also makes a caffeine eye cream that's part of the same collection. In the past I've also used strivectan (spelling?). I find that sleep is the best remedy though and using a good night cream for the eyes works too.
