2 Steps to Clean Skin

My skin is everything to me.  I’ve always been obsessed with having clear skin. My good friends joke that I have the most skincare products they’ve ever seen. It’s all because I have fun testing out different products until I find what works. But I also believe that having great skin requires daily conditioning. Nope, not the kind of conditioner you put in your hair. I’m talking about the kind of conditioning you do at the gym…y’know, where you actually put some effort into it!

Day to night maintenance—it’s a regimen I swear by. Just like I never miss my daily workout, I never skimp on my skincare routine. I never go to bed with makeup on and I always prep my face with nourishing serums, oils and moisturizers depending on the season.

A lot goes into my skin-game but to keep it simple, I've partnered with Pulsaderm to share a couple of quick and easy steps for guaranteed younger looking, clear skin. I practice these steps every day without fault and recommend you do the same. That way we can all go makeup-free like Alicia Keyes!

1.    Wash your face every morning and evening with a deep cleansing brush

I use Pulsaderm’s Sonic Washcloth to clean and exfoliate my face. I never miss a wash because I can’t imagine starting or ending my day with a build-up of impurities on my face. The Sonic Washcloth is anti-bacterial and anti-microbial, made from a medical grade silicone. There are other silicone brushes out there but not many with this medical grade silicone feature, which is gentle and simultaneously deep cleansing on skin.

Using my Sonic Washcloth is way more effective that just washing my face with my hands because not only does it give a deeper clean, but it also helps me reach every angle, even around my ears and neck which are spots I used to miss before.

All I do is press down firmly either once or twice on the power button on the backside of the brush, and it begins to pulse. The pulsing motion works to foam up your cleanser and remove everything you don’t want off your skin and out of your pores. You can apply as much pressure as needed as you run the Sonic Washcloth over your face. Personally, I just like to set mine at the highest pulse setting (2 presses) for the deepest level of cleansing. My skin never gets red or irritated because the Washcloth is not a bristle design like other facial cleansing devices sold.

The fiber bristles on other brushes can be harsh on skin and beyond that, pick up bacteria from your bathroom that gets transferred to your face. No thanks! The Washcloth’s medical grade silicone design helps you avoid this problem. It comes as one piece, doesn’t need a brush head replacement, and it’s so easy to pack for travel. Check out my travel bag above. The best part is that you can get it for $45 , a fraction of the price of other facial brushes that in my opinion don’t work as well.

2. Apply a Hyaluronic Acid serum daily

I didn’t know what Hyaluronic Acid was until 2015, so this is actually a newer step in my skincare regimen and one that I’m obsessed with because it immediately follows Steps 1 and 2. Right after I wash my face with my Sonic Washcloth, I break out a Hyaluronic Acid serum and apply a thin layer from my forehead down to my neck.

In case, you’re hearing about Hyaluronic Acid (HA) for the first time, here’s what it is. HA is a major component of our skin, naturally produced by our bodies, that is involved in tissue repair. It’s used in skincare products for anti-aging and recently has grown extremely popular. The reason for this is because HA levels get depleted as we age. Our bodies stop making as much so the beauty industry has pushed out tons of products that incorporate it.

Even though it comes in different forms, I like to apply Hyaluronic Acid that comes within a serum base. Serums effectively seep into your skin and dry fast. A Hyaluronic Acid serum is great to apply right after you’ve washed and exfoliated your skin because at this time your pores are open for optimal absorption.

The result is that HA will help your skin retain water moisture, restore its firmness and appear more plump and youthful.
