How I Started My Subscription Box Business

This blog post has been sitting in my blogging queue for a few months now and has even accidentally posted a few times, ooops! The truth is that I was so busy working on my current Quarterly Box #MIZ15, which ships out at the end of this week, that I kept putting off writing this. I started the blog post 3 months ago. Shame on me. Bad blogger, bad! The subscription box that I curate for Quarterly Co is inspired by my lifestyle and love for fitness. It is my passion project and a top priority for me. Until it's under wraps and finalized, sometimes I don't have a second to breathe. It's imperative that the finished product is just the way I imagined it (or way better) before it ships out to women across the world. With that said, I can comfortably share that curating a subscription mailing or what we call a "subbox" for short, is a lot of work. But it's also a whole lot of fun too! If you're juggling different jobs or a few operations within your business (like me), it...

Want to be a TV host or on-air expert? Take this class!

Hey guys! So years ago when I first got started with this website, I experienced unexpected spontaneous success. I had networks calling me, asking me to come on their shows to do fitness fashion segments. I was completely unprepared to appear on these shows. One of my 1st on-air moments was the Today Show. While I was proud of myself in the moment, I can't help but cringe every time I watch the clip. I did not have the skillset to appear on-air, had no idea what the hell I was doing, and could have potentially killed my career. Luckily, I had a wonderful publicist who helped guide me towards media training and hosting training. But let's just say I learned through trial and error with the Today Show. My mistakes on-air made me want to be better, eventually leading me into a career a TV and digital host! The story is a little bit longer than what I've just shared but the point is that if you envision yourself speaking online or on TV, you really should learn the basics. It's...

Rise and Shine on my #WhereToNow Road Trip

The first step out of bed is the hardest step you’ll take all day. Along with Tri-State Ford, I’m going to show you how every step afterwards can lead you to an exciting adventure. I’m doing it all in a 2015 Ford Escape to celebrate Tri-State Ford’s “Where To Now?” adventure and sweepstakes! Here are 5 tips that help me conquer the day every morning: Plan and prepare your breakfast the night before. It’s the most important meal you’ll have all day. I prep and freeze fruit for my smoothies the night before or I’ll soak chia seeds in almond milk for a yummy chia pudding breakfast. Make sure you’re fully stocked with all fixings for coffee or tea. I can’t start my day without it! Commit to an early morning workout by signing up for a class at a local studio. Or better yet, make a fit date with a friend. You’re less likely to skip fitness when you’re financially invested and have someone holding you accountable. Lay out active...

Healthy Cocktails with Me in NYC!

I'm hosting a fab event on April 30th in NYC with David Barton Gym and LimeLight shops. Come join me! It's going to be a fun springtime evening social, if you will, and a great chance to check out the evolution of LimeLight! I remember when it was a raging club back in the day, full of craziness and trouble that I'm too square to subject myself to now (but...I was a wild one once). Times have changed. Now that crazy party church is home to David Barton Gym and LimeLight shops where health and fashion are king and "queen" (it's in Chelsea, so I had to). But we're going to stir things up nonetheless. Come join our healthy party with cocktails from SkinnyGirl and Juice Press, and wine sorbet from Frosae Wine Sorbae, which is basically FROZEN WINE! Heeeeeello, you'll know where I'll be all night. Grab the rest of the details from the invite and feel free to ask me any questions. I should probably mention that the first 150 people to show up will take home a gift bag and...

Latham Thomas on Women Who Empower

I was lucky enough to interview Latham Thomas for my Women Who Empower series on YouTube. She inspires women through her business Mama Glow, her "hip guide" on prenatal wellness, her beautiful affirmations on social media and through all her doula work. She's been known to work with many celebrities like Alicia Keys. Latham also helps women get fit during and post-pregnancy. When I first approached Latham about filming together, I asked her if she'd comment on the events that went down in Ferguson, Missouri, which is not far from where I grew up in St. Louis. She was all IN. The conversation we had below was months before there was a final decision for NO INDICTMENT in the case against Darren Wilson. Click HERE or on the image below to watch. Everything Latham says comes from such a calm and honest place. Find out what the life of a Prenatal Wellness Expert is all about, especially if you're interested in becoming a doula or hiring one to assist you through your...

REJECTED by Under Armour

It's hard for me to write this as I'm pretty upset...so bear with me here. I have something I want to get out and I'm going to try my best to use the right words here. About a month ago I was contacted by Popsugar and Under Armour to be a part of the I WILL WHAT I WANT campaign. It's a very empowering campaign about overcoming obstacles to achieve what you want in life no matter what other people have to say. I was honored to receive the invitation to say the least, esp after watching Under Armour's Misty Copeland commercial. Under Armour's request was to make a short video sharing my story to show how I will what I want. And so I did. You can watch it below. Once I sent in the video, I did not hear from them for weeks. Popsugar kept making excuses for Under Armour but it was clear my story wasn't good enough for them. Perhaps it was because I mentioned the D-word (depression) or because I didn't wear their clothes in a sexy way. Perhaps it was because I was a little TOO...
