Happy International Women’s Day 2019!

What a cool day, right? It’s OUR day but also a day to celebrate all the historic achievements of the women before our time. If someone were to ask me who I’d be celebrating today it would be Harriet Tubman, Frida Kahlo and Maya Angelou. All 3 women are icons who inspire me and whose life stories make me want to be a legend myself.

When I started Mizzfit.com over 10 years ago, my mission was to help motivate women to exercise and find a way to balance an active lifestyle with everything else they were doing. It started as a mere idea and became my passion, my mission and ultimately my career! A lot has evolved since the creation of this blog and expanded beyond this catchy url, but what has remained strong is my desire to LIFT WOMEN UP.

I hope the image that you see above make sense now :) I'm holding one of my best friends, Michelle Thomas, who I've known for years and actually met in a tabata fitness class. Michelle is like a sister to me. She’s someone I really...

How I Deal with Nor'easters and Stress

New York City is gearing up for its 3rd Nor'easter. Each time it hits, it's the day I'm supposed to travel for work. I've already had to reschedule two TV appearances this year on account of the first Nor'easter. But hey, weather is unpredictable and when it hits, it usually hits hard. There's nothing you can do about it. Unless of course, you're ME...you'll find something to do like STRESS! I was born a worry wort. It's a shame because stress is so bad for your health.

I should really take my own advice and just NOT stress out but that's hard for me to do. Over the years, I've tried a lot of supplements to help calm me down. There are some that work really well for me that contain Magnesium powder that you can mix with water. I like them fine but I'm not always in the mood to down a full glass of flavored magnesium water. Lately I've been turning to vitamins, which in my opinion are much easier to take. I get nutrients to help me calm down and feel more balanced.

At first,...

Eczema Happened To Me and My Life Is Still Awesome

I’ve partnered with Aveeno to bring you this personal blog post about my experience living with Eczema.

As I write this, I have eczema. But that’s nothing new. I get it a lot. In many ways, it’s part of who I am. I come to expect it and have learned to live with it. At this point in my life, eczema isn’t the end of the world for me.  But I’ll never forget when I first got it; it felt like my skin was waging a war against me.

So, why on earth do I want to talk about and publicize my skin problem? Well, for one, it’s Eczema Awareness Month. And second, I’m not ashamed about having it. I made a YouTube video years ago about it that connected me to so many people going through the same thing. And recently, I shared my story and important facts to know about eczema with Health.com.  Educating people is important to me because eczema can be really confusing. Whether you have it or you don’t,...

Working with Alex's Lemonade Stand + Win Tickets to Lemon NYC Culinary Event!

I always love sharing a heart warming story...although I must admit this one makes me tear up every time I talk about it even though it has a happy ending. Alex Scott is a little girl who had cancer all her life until the age of 8 when she passed away. During her fight with cancer she created a lemonade stand to raise money and awareness for cancer research that helped children like herself.

She created an incredible movement that was all over the news and in publications near and far. Other children and families joined in, creating their own lemonade stands to follow in Alex's footsteps. Sadly, Alex couldn't beat her disease (this is the part that hurts) but she left behind a legacy of goodwill, love and dedication for her vision that lives on as the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and Alex's Million Mile.

When I was approached about working with Alex's foundation, I immediately said YES. The story completely moved me and I felt like Alex handpicked me to share her...

SodaStream Recipes You Need To Try!

If you don't have a SodaStream in your life, you need to get one! I'm obsessed with mine but I have to admit that I got on the train a little late in life. I wish I had purchased one much sooner! So, I put together these recipes with the help of SodaStream to inspire everyone to reject the vending machine and all those delicious looking sugary drinks that get advertised to us all summer long. I know they look good on billboards and in commercials but so many carbonated drinks and sodas are loaded with sugar and sodium.

I kid you not that my SodaStream has become a healthy replacement tool. You can make your own fizzy drinks without the huge calorie intake. If you already have a SodaStream, you know what I'm talking about (just skip ahead to the recipes below). Drinks loaded with sodium (that seem to be lower in calories or have zero) will most often make you feel bloated and sluggish. Not good if you're trying to lose weight! The opposite will happen! Your body will hold onto...

How to Live with Eczema and Be Happy

I've never been shy about having eczema. Health.com approached me to be in their videos about ecema because they found a Youtube video I made years ago about having it. I think the condition scares a lot of people who don't know much about it because (1) it's a funny (if not ominous) sounding name for a skin problem with (2) no discoverable cure.  Let me say this right off the bat: I have great skin! I've never suffered from bad acne, don't burn too easily in the sun and I'm not extremely sensitive when it comes to trying all kinds of skincare products. My skin has been a joy to live in for 30+ years.  But occassionally, I will develop a terrible dry rash on my hands, feet, arms, legs and stomach which makes it difficult to move through my day without distraction, irritation and frustration from not being able to satisfy the itch. This is eczema and this is my story. Interestingly enough, eczema presents itself differently on different bodies. I have a type...

Prescription Problems Solved for my Shoulder Injury

I have a shoulder injury :( and it's something I've been working through for nearly a year. I started noticing the pain during my workouts but just thought it was some kind of exercise soreness. Then the area started to ache when I wasn't working out and I knew something was wrong. Even sleeping became incredibly painful. A few doctors and an MRI later, I found out that it was a SLAP tear, an injury specific to the labrum in the shoulder which surrounds the socket of the shoulder joint. In the fitness world, this injury is actually quite common. It requires that you stop all high intensity training, let it heal and then begin physical therapy or post-injury training. My doctor prescribed me Meloxicam for the inflammation and I also received 2 cortisone shots to reduce the pain. It's a very slow road to recovery and 3 months into it, I thought the pain would never end. But it's gotten so much better and I can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel now (9 months...

I Went Sulfate Free for My Hair + How I Organize My Shower

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #FreeOfSulfates #CollectiveBias I recently had a treatment done to relax the natural frizziness in my hair that becomes a problem for me in the summer. My hair cooperates beautifully in the winter but it’s not a fan of humidity. The treatment I get done at my salon is great because it makes my hair smoother and more manageable to style. Most importantly, I can wear down in the hot weather without it turning into an uncontrollable frizzy mess. It has definitely cut my blow drying time in half too! My stylist informed me that the treatment required “upkeep”. In order to keep it active, I would have to make some changes to my daily routine, like going sulfate free with all my hair products. This was initially very frustrating because I already owned so many hair care products that I’d now have to replace but considering the treatment was costly ($400!!!) it only...

AELLA Duster Jacket + $100 Gift Card Giveaway

I was dying for a duster jacket so when I spotted AELLA Collection's Convertible Duster, I knew I had to have it! I've worn it every day since getting it and have been stopped on the street by people way more fashionable than me to compliment me on it, so I figured I'd blog about it and see what you guys think. It's literally the most perfect jacket for spring weather, keeping me warm on chilly overcast days but cool enough on sunny days. It literally flows as you walk, doesn't wrinkle and couldn't be more convenient for travel. I took it with me to Hawaii--it saved my life in the cold airports and plane but also came in handy on windy beach nights. I'm just going to cut to the chase because this is really exciting! I'm giving away a $100 shopping card for AELLA, towards the purchase of my beloved duster jacket or anything else that catches your eye from the collection. AELLA makes clothing for women who are going places. Their collection is designed for the empowered...

What happened to my eye??? #Chalazion

Hey guys, so last weekend I had the worst thing happen to my eye. For some reason the glands in my eyes decided to act up and stop working normally. The reason for this is still unknown but I'll get into that later. The backup created a huge "chalazion" on my eyelid (also called a hordeolum), which caused me so much pain and discomfort over the course of a week. The inflammation made it nearly impossible to open my eye and it was sore to the touch--like someone punched me in the eye socket. I could barely touch it with my fingertip without wanting to cry. I tried to wait it out because everyone was telling me I just had a stye. I totally appreciated receiving everyone's recommendations. I think the apple cider vinegar, boric acid and hot compress tips were all wonderful but my situation was too far gone for these remedies to heal. Plus, those hot compresses hurt so bad! I ended up at urgent care where I didn't get the right treatment but at least I got a few doctor...
