I realize that not all of you can afford expensive active wear. Some of the trends I write about are outside your budget for fitness gear, and I completely respect that. Listen…there are things I wouldn’t spend over $50 on either! Money is an issue. I understand this. If I could afford to shop at Whole Foods every week—poppin’ bubbly and makin’ it rain—I would. But my wallet is just not having it…and I don’t actually hang with rappers. We make concessions, right? Then again sometimes you don’t have to compromise anything if you know where to look!
I’ve got a stylish solution for your fitness needs and it just so happens you can find it at Target®. I’ve had Target-itus since I was a kid, way back when I used to get stuffed into the retractable child-seat of their shopping carts. That spot is now reserved for my purse, lol! You can save yourself more than a couple of bucks on fitness gear and look just as good as all your friends shopping at expensive store brands. Updating your fitness closet doesn’t have to cost hundreds of dollars.
C9 by Champion for Target® has been a longstanding affordable fitness-fashion favorite of mine (even before I started Mizzfit.com). The price is always right and so is the color palette. Recently I tested 2 items that are in-store now:
I have to tell you about these 2 pieces because they’re definitely must-haves for outdoor summer fitness and quite frankly, they’re a steal without looking cheap.
I last wore my C9 Layered Run Tank to Boot Camp class on the Hudson River Pier. It was so hot outside and the workout was a tough one: cardio + bodyweight based strength training. The C9 tank was my savior through it because it has a peek-a-boo inner bra for support but the actual tank is loose and airy. It’s probably the most ventilated top I own made with moisture wicking that doesn’t lie. It’s impossible to be sweat soaked in this tank.
I’m a C cup in the chest and the fit was purrrfection. At $22.99, this tank is a STEAL. Wear it with capris or a tighter fitting bottom to balance out the loose fit.
My C9 Run Shorts were worn for a 2.5 mile social buzz run I led after work. The print is stylish and the fabric, again, dries extremely fast. At $16.99, these are cheapest run shorts I own. These days a good pair can run you upwards of $50 so you really can’t go wrong here.
I love the length of these shorts on me and I never felt like my thighs were rubbing against each other, which is a problem I’ve had with many styles of run shorts (not enough fabric where you need it, tsk tsk). If you’ve got some junk in the trunk or a rounder tush, I recommend going up a size because the inner brief elastic will grope and leave a panty line where you don’t wanna see it. Got a flat butt? Stick to your size or even go down a size if you’re in-between sizes.
By the time you read this article, who knows if these 2 pieces will still be available since Target® inventory goes out the door fast. But I can vouch for C9 by Champion. They’re constantly pushing out new designs in seasonal colors and prints so it’s worth browsing their racks at Target®. Or sign up for a Target credit card like me and get free shipping on orders over $50. You probably won’t spend $50 on just a tank and a pair of shorts but you can always throw in some Qtips and Irish Spring to top it off.
