Does Your Hair Need Therapy? Mine Did.

I spend 40-60 minutes blow drying, 20 minutes styling with a curling iron or straightner, and an additional 10-15 minutes defrizz-ing, adding shine and then taming fly-aways. My hair routine is a whole process--one that I've been doing for years since the second grade.

When you grow up as a wavy-haired Latina girl, you learn to use a round brush right about the same time you learn to use a fork and spoon. It becomes a tool you can't live without...safely stored in your hot pink Caboodle along with your crimper. (If you're a child of the 90's, you'll get that reference.) Not much has changed for me since those days, I'm still round brushing my hair and subjecting it to all kinds of heat, coloring and sometimes even relaxing chemical treatments. It's awful what I put it through and the damage is often obvious to me in pictures.

I realize not all of you reading this can relate but when you're born with thick, coarse or curly hair, "styling" becomes a huge part of your life. An obsession, in fact. You learn to love the good and accept the bad. The bad being the huge time investment along with the damage inflicted upon your locks.

I just can't stop! I love my hair straightened and styled much better than natural, and will always opt for a sleek look.  It's just part of who I am and how I express myself. So, I had to find a way to wash, condition and restore my hair to stand up to the constant stress I put it through.

My hairdresser told me that a lot of inexpensive shampoos and conditioners are just as good, if not sometimes even better, than luxury haircare and shampoo brands. I wanted to try Suave's new Coconut Oil Infusion line so I grabbed it from Walmart.

I've always loved Suave products but my interest was really peaked by how this new line is infused with pure coconut oil. I love using coconut oil to cook and to soothe my dry skin (I have eczema). So why not try it out in my hair, right?

Coconut oil is a really effective natural moisturizer. The formula in Suave's Coconut Oil Infusion Damage Repair Shampoo and Conditioner is lightweight, smells nice and doesn't feel oily at all. I did a test when I took these photos.  There's no greasy residue left behind on the white paper and I certainly didn't feel any on my head after my washing my hair.

In the shower, I could feel the coconut oil working because it took my hair from dry and brittle to smooth and strong. When your hair is hydrated and happy, it doesn't feel weak or coarse and split at the ends. If you're wondering if I have eyelash extensions from the picture above, the answer is yes. It's yet another form of injury I cause to the hair on my body! #SorryNotSorry

I'm obsessed with the Coconut Oil Influsion Damage Repair Conditioner because my hair felt like satin when I rinsed it out. There have honestly been times when my hair felt like straw during a wash and even fell out as I lathered up...so it's reassuring now to have Suave shampoo products that are rescuing my locks (and keeping them stuck to my head!).

I get more bounce and movement from my hair when it's healthy and full of moisture. The 3-step system which includes a Coconut Oil Infusion Damage Repair Oil Treatment is supposed to visibly repair two years of damage for healthier looking hair.

I'm in it to WIN IT. So I've been using the treatment oil pre and post blow dry, and so far, love the results! If you're going to use it before you blow out your hair, I recommend 1-2 pumps of the Treatment Oil on just the ends while your hair is still dripping wet.

Otherwise, once you've finished your blow out, use 1-2 pumps and start by massaging the ends. From there, work your way up to the root. I prefer to build up when it comes to treatment oils rather than apply too much at the beginning. Your hair will tell you how much it needs by how quickly it soaks up the oil. So, just take your time and let your hair talk to you. Your cuticles will be smoother. You'll have more shine and definitely less flyaways.

Here's a video of my hair styled after using all 3 products. I was filming today in Times Square, NYC, and the makeup artist doing touch-ups kept telling me my hair looked great. I asked her to take a little instagram video so you could see my results from the 3-step Coconut Oil Infusion by Suave. Literally, all 3 products cost me under $15!

To repair and strengthen hair, visit your local Walmart to try out all of the new 2016 Suave Professionals collections: Coconut Oil Infusion, Coconut Milk Infusion and Biotin Infusion, while supplies last.
