All opinions are mine alone. #FreeOfSulfates #CollectiveBias I recently had a treatment done to relax the natural frizziness in my hair that becomes a problem for me in the summer. My hair cooperates beautifully in the winter but it’s not a fan of humidity. The treatment I get done at my salon is great because it makes my hair smoother and more manageable to style. Most importantly, I can wear down in the hot weather without it turning into an uncontrollable frizzy mess. It has definitely cut my blow drying time in half too! My stylist informed me that the treatment required “upkeep”. In order to keep it active, I would have to make some changes to my daily routine, like going sulfate free with all my hair products. This was initially very frustrating because I already owned so many hair care products that I’d now have to replace but considering the treatment was costly ($400!!!) it only...
I spend 40-60 minutes blow drying, 20 minutes styling with a curling iron or straightner, and an additional 10-15 minutes defrizz-ing, adding shine and then taming fly-aways. My hair routine is a whole process--one that I've been doing for years since the second grade. When you grow up as a wavy-haired Latina girl, you learn to use a round brush right about the same time you learn to use a fork and spoon. It becomes a tool you can't live without...safely stored in your hot pink Caboodle along with your crimper. (If you're a child of the 90's, you'll get that reference.) Not much has changed for me since those days, I'm still round brushing my hair and subjecting it to all kinds of heat, coloring and sometimes even relaxing chemical treatments. It's awful what I put it through and the damage is often obvious to me in pictures. I realize not all of you reading this can relate but when you're born with thick, coarse or curly hair, "styling" becomes a huge part of your life. An...
New York Fashion Week (NYFW) this fall was superb! I'm still recovering from it. Literally! I caught the flu somewhere between rushing to shows and shaking hands with and hugging everyone. It didn't help that the weather was changing too. But that's what it's all about! CHANGE. The birth of new trends to follow! You might think that living in downtown Manhattan, I already see it all when it comes to high style. To some extent that's true because of the amazing and innovative fashion sense people have here. BUT, I'm never as exposed to the world of fashion and the mind-blowing creations debuting on runways as I am during NYFW. One of the shows I was invited to was Julianna Bass. It was spectacular. She presented her "Search Don't Rescue" collection, which really appealed to me because I'm a huge fan of monochromatic, flowy dresses and pairings. There was also texture and dimension from the cut-out pieces presented, as well as movement from crazier digital prints on...
