Knee-High in Fun

There's nothing more fun than playing dress up with your best friend, especially when it involves a bunch of funky socks from Chrissy's Knee High Socks. I teamed up with Chrissy's and my bestie, Michelle from YoGoGirls, to bring you these playful and sporty looks. Hopefully they'll inspire you to get creative with something as simple and inexpensive as a pair of socks.

I picked out some rather loud styles for our shoot but once I got comfortable in them, I had no qualms wearing them "off-set". And if anyone has ever told you that knee highs only look good on girls with skinny legs, well, that's just NOT TRUE. I'm 5'2" with muscular legs and I loved the way these Polka Dot Socks almost seemed to lengthen my legs.

Short girls are always getting brainwashed into thinking we can't pull off more eccentric looks or fashion trends that taller girls can get away with. Personally, I just think it's a matter of choosing a pattern, color or length that best suit your legs. For instance, thigh highs are NO BUENO on me while these athletic tube socks below fit just right.

I love this tongue-in-cheek pair of I Heart Knee Socks. You can totally wear them in a festive way, like to a concert or some kind of costume party. I'll probably wear mine to Wanderlust Festival. Chrissy's has a bunch more of this tube style (without the cutesy phrases) and they look amazing with activewear.

As much as I tugged and pulled on Michelle's vintage Strawberry Shortcake rollerskates, I could not get them to fit! But, of course, they fit her perfectly (she's the tiniest and fittest human being I know...with feet to match). Below, she's wearing my favorite American Apparel leotard (which is not always so PG).

We accidentally covered up the last "R" on these WARRIOR socks, in case you were wondering what Warrio meant. I have no idea where Michelle finds all her kitchy props (i.e. the child-sized skates) but they always make for the best shoots. You can't see it but there's actually a lime green typewriter shoved off to the corner of the room.

My favorite pair of knee highs were these Space Socks. Perhaps it's because I went to Cornell and was slightly obsessed with the work of Carl Sagan. He died the year before I got there but it was impossible not to know about him or lurk past the unusual home he left to his estate on campus. That's one thing I loved about going to Cornell--all the sciences taught! I spent a few amazing evenings at the Cornell Observatory checking out planets, the moon and stars.

Chrissy's Knee Highs even look good with equally colorful footwear, like the Riosoul soft sneaks (Brazilian inspired) we have on. Can you tell who's who?

I had to! I love mustaches, what can I say? In my opinion, the Mustache Socks look best with all black because they really stand out and people can easily tell what they are. If you have muscle-y calves like me, they might stretch a bit...but that just means a longer 'stache. And there's nothing wrong with that!

So, yes, this is a sexier pic of me. Mom, close your eyes...Michelle made me do it! But in all seriousness, Michelle and I think you can step up your cycling style and game with a pair of knee highs. They somehow ALWAYS look good with short shorts and they will offer a small amount of compression. For major compression, you'll have to find more of an athletic brand with high-performance design (2XU comes to mind). But if you just want to look cute and warm up your muscles up with a touch of tightness, these will do ya just fine.

I've been posting a lot of spinning pics lately on my instagram and some of the comments I've received (from serious bike riders) was to get my ass outside. In response to that, I fully agree. Outdoor fitness is actually what I love most and find to be the healthiest mentally. I'm actually not much of a spinner (in fact, I kind of hate it) but I like the challenge of doing something that doesn't come easily. The fact is that I actually own a bike and ride through the streets of NYC whenever I can. No offense to spinning but dodging cars and people is way more exciting.

Michelle is definitely more the trained cyclist and road warrior. Her 2 loves are yoga and cycling, and she does this thing call a #yogokickstand.

It's pretty awesome and so is she for playing dress up with me. Hope you liked our looks. All the socks are available on Chrissy's Knee High Socks and average around $10. Good luck picking just 1 pair :)
