What a cool day, right? It’s OUR day but also a day to celebrate all the historic achievements of the women before our time. If someone were to ask me who I’d be celebrating today it would be Harriet Tubman, Frida Kahlo and Maya Angelou. All 3 women are icons who inspire me and whose life stories make me want to be a legend myself.
When I started Mizzfit.com over 10 years ago, my mission was to help motivate women to exercise and find a way to balance an active lifestyle with everything else they were doing. It started as a mere idea and became my passion, my mission and ultimately my career! A lot has evolved since the creation of this blog and expanded beyond this catchy url, but what has remained strong is my desire to LIFT WOMEN UP.
I hope the image that you see above make sense now :) I'm holding one of my best friends, Michelle Thomas, who I've known for years and actually met in a tabata fitness class. Michelle is like a sister to me. She’s someone I really...
Watch my video HERE with Qinetic Live (or click the image above) on how to transition into fall fitness with 3 simple tips. I'm sharing 3 fashion-based products that are worth investing in to inspire you to work out as summer leaves us. I know when fall rolls around I lose a little of my excitement and energy for exercise. My advice is to just keep it fresh to rekindle that love. This goes for everything that you do in life. If you're going to spend some dough, I recommend the 3 items featured in my video! I also recommend you keep reading to find out which one I'm giving away :) Be Brilliant's Tote Bags aren't cheap by any means but they are LEGIT as a carry-all. I'm using the silver one right now and it blows people away to find out that I have sneaker stored in the bottom compartment and a change of clothes for the gym in the middle section. I own more than a few duffel bags and this tote is a nice change allowing me combine 2 bags into 1. The metallic colors are...
I'm giving away a killer pair of Graffiti Beasts leggings and announcing big news. Let's start with the leggings because I want you sweating in style STAT. Graffiti Beasts leggings feature the art of real street artists whose art can be seen on the streets of Lisbon, Barcelona, Milan, New York City and many more cities across the world. They are urban, colorful and you won't find them at stores like Lululemon. I discovered Graffiti Beasts on HauteAthletics.com, an online fitness fashion boutique that caters to a funkier gym-wear to street-wear demographic. I've talked a lot about Haute Athletics this summer and love that they carry stuff you won't find elsewhere. Go take a look! I like that Graffiti Beasts leggings are bad-ass and punk. Since there are women rockin' this style and attitude in their everyday clothing, clearly there should be activewear that expresses the same vibe! Check out Graffiti Beast leggings in my recent Qinetic Live fitness fashion...
There's nothing more fun than playing dress up with your best friend, especially when it involves a bunch of funky socks from Chrissy's Knee High Socks. I teamed up with Chrissy's and my bestie, Michelle from YoGoGirls, to bring you these playful and sporty looks. Hopefully they'll inspire you to get creative with something as simple and inexpensive as a pair of socks. I picked out some rather loud styles for our shoot but once I got comfortable in them, I had no qualms wearing them "off-set". And if anyone has ever told you that knee highs only look good on girls with skinny legs, well, that's just NOT TRUE. I'm 5'2" with muscular legs and I loved the way these Polka Dot Socks almost seemed to lengthen my legs. Short girls are always getting brainwashed into thinking we can't pull off more eccentric looks or fashion trends that taller girls can get away with. Personally, I just think it's a matter of choosing a pattern, color or length that best suit your legs. For...
When I'm not wearing workout clothes I like to DRESS UP! But I operate on a consistenly busy schedule and time is of the essence, so unlike meticulous fashion bloggers I don't have much time to put together elaborate outfits (even though I salivate over them). For me, fitness fashion comes easy because it's my passion. I can throw a great fitness look together in no time. Like this one... For non-sweaty occasions though, it's a different story. I find myself standing in front of my closet for hours with my finger hanging out the side of my mouth. Duuuuuuh. What to wear??? Keep It Simple Stupid has become my strategy for success. I don't overly acccessorize or layer, and I like for everything to come off as easily as it went on. Is that weird? I like outfits that move as much as I like to move. Like bottoms that flow, poof out and blow in the wind. Pieces like this are flirty, feminine and playful, which is my style when I dress up. I nearly died when I found this...
Melissa Jane King let me follow her around Thompkins Square in her Lower East Side (LES) 'hood of New York City for the very first of my "Followed" posts. Isn't that what we do...follow the style cues of women brave enough to create and flaunt them?
I'm inspired by people who make my job of Fitness Trend Reporting less predictable, especially those who practice fitness fashion on local streets and rural paths in ways not always defined by conventional fitness. You'll be seeing more of that here on Mizzfit.com because I want you to see people creating trends at their inception, not just wearing them after-the-fact.
Thanks to Melissa Jane King and baby Olive for being my first!
"I’m not sure I am fit…I’m naturally thin so perhaps this gives me the appearance of being fit. After Olive was born I began ‘Belly-Back’ exercises. They’re awesome because you can do them anywhere – it got my stomach and waist back in shape after a few weeks. In terms of...
