My Gym Body Shamed Me!

-- This is a guest blog post by Christina Canterino -- I want to share a story with the world that has affected me in a way I never thought possible. Let me start by giving you a little background about myself…   I am a 29 year old woman, and I lost sixty pounds in two and a half years. I have kept the weight off and have gotten leaner, faster, and stronger as each day passes. I struggled with bulimia throughout my young adult years, going in and out of therapy and treatment. It was so bad, that i was forced to drop out of college midway through my second semester. It was one of the most difficult periods of my life. Now, I consider myself athletic, confident, and healthy. A few years ago, I was able to complete my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology. However, fitness and wellness have grown to become my passion. During the day, I am a working member of corporate America. At night I am a group fitness instructor. I am studying for the NASM...

5 Fitness Myths Busted

Did you fall for an April Fool's Day prank this year? I know how that goes. I'm the most gullible person in the world, making me an easy target year after year. But when it comes to fitness--my area of expertise--there's no fooling me or anyone else for that matter. I want you to be informed on all the possibilities of fitness instead of believing bogus stories that discourage you. I picked 5 of my favorite Fitness Myths to debunk on Lucy Activewear's new blog: Yoga doesn't burn calories. It’s better to stretch before your workout than after. Treadmills are better for your feet than running outside. You need to have long legs to be a good runner. You can work out at your desk.   Haven't you always wanted to know the truth??? GET IT HERE! Leave a comment below telling me which fitness myth gets under your skin and why it's soooo untrue. Even better, comment below AND tweet it out using the hashtag #lucyletsgo so that Lucy and...

REJECTED by Under Armour

It's hard for me to write this as I'm pretty upset...so bear with me here. I have something I want to get out and I'm going to try my best to use the right words here. About a month ago I was contacted by Popsugar and Under Armour to be a part of the I WILL WHAT I WANT campaign. It's a very empowering campaign about overcoming obstacles to achieve what you want in life no matter what other people have to say. I was honored to receive the invitation to say the least, esp after watching Under Armour's Misty Copeland commercial. Under Armour's request was to make a short video sharing my story to show how I will what I want. And so I did. You can watch it below. Once I sent in the video, I did not hear from them for weeks. Popsugar kept making excuses for Under Armour but it was clear my story wasn't good enough for them. Perhaps it was because I mentioned the D-word (depression) or because I didn't wear their clothes in a sexy way. Perhaps it was because I was a little TOO...

Too Pretty To Be Taken Seriously

It's been a while since I've gotten really personal. And the time for that is NOW. So here I go... Earlier this week I had an interesting thing happen to me. While meeting with a person (whose identity will remain unknown) that works in an aligned industry to my own, I was told--straight to my face with 100% eye contact--that I was "too pretty to be taken seriously".

Now I should probably give you the context of conversation so that you understand what it's in reference to. My goal for the last several years has been to become a wellness tv host or correspondent for fitness & health trends happening around the world. Basically I dream of doing what I do here on Mizzfit.com but through the medium of television. I'm passionate about what I do and I'd love to reach more women doing it! The person who threw this wild comment at me knows of my ambition and for some reason thinks I'm "too pretty" to earn people's trust and make it happen.

Deep breath.

This is where things...
