I just joined the #BeActiv campaign which entails that I share my new health goals with you for 2015. To be honest, I have more health goals than I can count on 5 sets of hands, so I'll keep it short and sweet. Speaking of sweet, Valentine's Day reared its rosy head and lured me into a chocolate shop last week. The shop, nestled in the Nolita neighborhood of Manhattan, is called Stick With Me...and it's where I nearly got myself into a sticky situation
I was there to buy an assortment of chocolates for my Aunt as a combined birthday and Valentine's Day gift. Since she's a fashion designer, I knew she'd love chocolates from the most stylish and talked about chocolatier in town (the owners used to work at Per Se). As I admired the glossy bonbons (they're literally lacquered with a sugary coating and some are topped with edible gold leaf) my mouth was watering insatiably.
WAIT! This isn't the kind of stuff I allow myself to eat! It's the kind of stuff I only allow myself to gift! I forced myself to BUY IT, BAG IT, and BE DONE WITH IT. The gift was in my Aunt's hands with lightening speed.
I have to remind myself to be healthy ALL THE TIME...even though it's my job to report on health. I am easily tantalized like any drooling chocolate lover would be, which is why I'm excited to share my health goals with you through the #BeActiv campaign. Here they are!
- No more freakin' candy and sugar overloading (oh God, this is going to be hard!)
- I'm buying a class package at one of my favorite fitness studios (even though it's brutally cold outside and there's an Equinox gym in my building)
- I'm getting an annual physical (even though I can't remember which doctor I go to)
- I'm going to organize a charity-focused Mizzfit event this Spring
- I'm going to be more creative about taking supplements (because I totally fell off the vitamin bandwagon last year)
Even though Valentine's Day has passed, this is how I'm gonna love myself, starting with Viactiv (i.e. chocolate included). I've actually been a lifelong Viactiv Calcium Soft Chews fan, and I'm excited to report the expansion of their product line.
I did a 'lil shabby chic photoshoot with my Viactiv supplements so you could see the range. There's now a sugar-free milk chocolate flavor and tropical fruit gummies. Notice the little side dishes that look like they're filled with candy? That's actually Viactiv, which should not be mistaken as candy. But it's a little trick that I'm using to style up my supplement routine and remember to take them daily.
Check out my tips...
- Dish Viactiv into cute little ramekins and decorative trays
- Display and share Viactiv (or your favorite wrapped/gummy vitamin) on coffee tables, side tables or even at the office
- Get creative with how you store and organize your supplements so that you're more excited to take them throughout the day.
This is my collection of ramekins...
By making the Viactiv Caramel Chews more visible in the living room of my apartment, I remember to grab one on my way out every day.
I like to take it with my morning coffee...and I've been doing a good job of keeping that up :)
You could even do something fun for your desk area like this:
C is for calcium! That's something we all need. In fact, from the age of 19 to 50, it's recommended that adult women get at least 1000 mg of calcium per day. We need it--in addition to weekly exercise--to maintain bone health and prevent osteoporosis. Calcium also strengthens your teeth and helps your muscles (including the heart) function properly.
As a fitness fanatic, calcium is a top priority in terms of supplements for me. I need my body to repair and build quickly. I also want it to be strong for all the crazy workouts I do. In fact, I ended up buying that class package I was talking about at Body By Simone for their Rebound Trampoline Cardio class, which is off the charts.
New to the world of Viactiv and not sure which kind to take? Here's a bit more info:
Viactiv Calcium Soft Chews happen to be the #1 doctor-recommended calcium supplement chew. Not only do they really taste like a creamy caramel and milk chocolate, but by taking 2 chews twice a day you're getting all the calcium you need along with vitamins D and K. Personally the chews are my favorite because they remind me of the decadent sweets I try to stay away from. Buy them at Target, CVS, Wal-Mart, Rite-Aid and Walgreens.
Viactiv Gummies are a great source of calcium and are both gluten and dairy free. They come in tropical flavors and cater to those with a sweet tooth. 2 gummies taken twice a day will give you 100% of the daily value of calcium you need plus vitamin D. They were designed for teens, but at my office the men seem to like them! Right now, these are sold exclusively at Walgreens.
