Prescription Problems Solved for my Shoulder Injury

I have a shoulder injury :( and it's something I've been working through for nearly a year. I started noticing the pain during my workouts but just thought it was some kind of exercise soreness. Then the area started to ache when I wasn't working out and I knew something was wrong. Even sleeping became incredibly painful. A few doctors and an MRI later, I found out that it was a SLAP tear, an injury specific to the labrum in the shoulder which surrounds the socket of the shoulder joint. In the fitness world, this injury is actually quite common. It requires that you stop all high intensity training, let it heal and then begin physical therapy or post-injury training. My doctor prescribed me Meloxicam for the inflammation and I also received 2 cortisone shots to reduce the pain.

It's a very slow road to recovery and 3 months into it, I thought the pain would never end. But it's gotten so much better and I can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel now (9 months later). Pain is never easy to work through and as much as I hate taking medication, I really needed the Meloxicam to sleep restfully. A shoulder injury can throb the most while you're laying down. No matter what sleeping position you get into, it hurts! For this reason, Meloxicam became an ongoing prescription.

Until I heard about a new service called Phil, I was picking up my Meloxicam prescription in person every month. It's definitely annoying waiting in line at the pharmacy when you have so many other important and time sensitive things to do. But I'll never wait in line again now that I've tried out Phil and love the convenience of having my prescriptions refilled and delivered to me.

The way Phil works is that you simply create an account online with your health insurance information, prescriptions that you need refilled and your pharmacy's location and contact info. An existing prescription needs to be in place or called in by your doctor at your pharmacy in order for Phil to take over and work its magic. But as far as signing up for the service, it's literally a few clicks of your keyboard and you're done!

You don't have to drive back and forth to the pharmarcy anymore--or in my case, walk there (#NewYorkCityGirl). With Phil, your prescriptions are refilled for you (you don't even have to pick up the phone) and the home delivery is absolutely free! It’s one less thing to worry about in your busy life.

Phil works with most insurance plans, and you can expect to pay the same copay as you would at the pharmacy. My copay cost was $1; literally no difference from what I used to pay at the pharmacy. For first-time customers, Phil will pay up to $20 off your insurance copay, or $20 off the cost of the medication if you are uninsured, while supplies last.

Phil offers oustanding service because the it works with community-based independent pharmacies that are highly-rated for their customer service.  All the refill paperwork is taken care of for you, email updates and in-transit notifications are sent to you, and any issues that arise are dealt with immediately and you can count on Phil to call you about it. This service is quickly expanding to all 50 states in the US, which will be really useful to people who are exceptionally busy or have difficulty getting around.

As a health & fitness blogger, I have to be on top of my game. I can't lose sleep or show up to a fitness shoot in pain. Phil makes it so much easier for me to nurse my injury because it removes the hassle and stress of the pharmacy for me. In the life of an entrepreneurial woman trying to change the world, that's huge! The easier it is for me to get my prescription refilled, the more I can help people across the world embrace fitness and get healthy.

If you're reading this article and also suffer from a labrum tear injury, here's some parting advice... TAKE IT EASY! SLAP tears only get worse when you continue to move and aggravate the shoulder. I learned this the hard way because my ego couldn't take the thought of toning down my workouts. It got to the point where I felt like my arm was hanging off a string, and it was only then that I decided to I needed to take a break and let my shoulder heal. I invested in a great post-injury trainer and a massage therapist who I see weekly.

Therapy tools like my trigger point foam roller, thera band and CBD pain relief ointment have also been life savers in addition to taking Meloxicam at night. Stay strong! You're in for the long haul but I promise you the wait is worth it because the pain dramatically subsides once the injury starts to heal.  Don't rush it...just have faith!

Make sure to see a doctor and I highly recommend to get an MRI so that you know the exact injury and the other parts of your shoulder or neck that it's affecting. This information is very important to your recovery and to share with your physical therapist or trainer.
