As I write this, I'm recovering from the WORST food poisoning of my life, which makes the practice of eating CAREFULLY so much more relevant to me. The last few days have been...well...extremely cavity opening. But I'll leave it at that because had I followed the advice from any of these books, I wouldn't have suffered through the last few days (and if you've had food poisoning before, you know what I'm talking about!).
Definitely watch the video above from my appearance on the Show Me St. Louis show or CLICK HERE. For more detailed info, keep on reading as I only had a few minutes on the show to talk about each diet. At the end of this article, there's a GIVEAWAY and I'm picking 3 WINNERS.
The Bulletproof Diet by Dave Asprey
I love this diet because it revolves around coffee, which I've grown up loving since my family in Honduras owns a coffee plant. Many doctors and health experts will tell you that coffee is bad for you but Dave Asprey claims it's exceptionally good for you as long as it's loaded with the right kinds of healthy fats. And, he believes it can help you lose weight too!
The focal point of the Bulletproof Diet is Mr. Asprey's Bulletproof coffee sourced from Central America. He calls it Upgraded Coffee because the whole process by which it's made and roasted is toxin-free. You can watch a video about it RIGHT HERE. If many coffee brands give you the jitters or have you hitting a low by your 2nd cup, you might want to try Bulletproof.
The way the diet works is that you drink a cup of Bulletproof coffee in the morning as a meal replacement blended with Brain Octane Oil and grass-fed butter. The concoction promotes a 1) mental boost, 2) increased productivity/energy, 3) reduced cravings and 4) it will keep you in a higher fat burning zone. This is what successful followers of the Bulletproof Diet are reporting.
You can get plenty of information on the Bulletproof website but I highly recommend getting the book because it teaches you how to make the coffee and the "science" behind the blend. It also guides you on how to eat after that first cup of Bulletproof coffee for breakfast. The diet approach involves lots of veggies, anti-oxidants and is powered by healthy fats. It's all about making better choices to fuel your body and brain. Get the book here on Amazon for $16.
The Rockstar Diet by Dr. Gabrielle Francis
Rockstars are always on tour, partying at the hottest clubs, making early morning press appearances and somehow still looking sexy, slim and forever young! How the hell do they do it? The book The Rockstar Remedy: A Rock & Roll Doctor's Prescription For Living A Long, Health Life will shed some light on this because the author behind it, Dr. Gabrielle Francis, has been known as the "Rock 'n Roll Doctor" for years. She's worked with some of the most famous rockbands using purely holistic strategies that cater to their busy lifestyles.
She wrote this book at first realization that normal people have just as busy and extreme lifestyles as her celebrity clientelle. She found that they were often just as overscheduled, sleep deprived, stressed and suffering from conditions of over-eating and binge drinking. The reason her approach works is because Dr. Francis believes that the whole body can't be healthy without each individual part being healthy to create a greater balance.
This diet starts out with a 21-day non-starvation detox and from there focuses on a 90/10 plan to help you lose weight. The book takes you through 5 RxStar Transformations stages that will help you achieve balance to maintain your results. And if you thought this book was just for women, think again! Dr. Francis worked with Steven Tyler, Tommy Lee, Dave Navarro, Megadeth and Def Leopard. So feel free to give this book to a dude. Get the book here on Amazon for $18.
The Bone Broth Diet
This is quite simply a diet based on sipping on 1 cup of hot, bone marrow broth every day. Bone marrow broth could also mean a homemade chicken or beef stock. It's becoming the "it" wellness beverage in cities like New York where people are lining up around the block to pay up to $9 for a cup. I had to go and try it myself, and guess what?!! It's freakin' delicious!
That's me at Brodo, a takeout window in New York City where Chef Marco Canora has created a menu of sippable bone broths that even include add-ins like ginger, shitake mushroom and beets.
But he's not the first to do it. Bone broths are an ancient remedy making a comeback (like chicken noodle soup). They're known to be incredibly nutritious because of the gelatin and minerals coming out of the bones. You're getting lots of good stuff like magnesium, potassium, calcium, amino acids and collagen. All of this helps speed up the healing process, clears and firms the skin, aids in digestion, and strengthens your hair and nails.
The best part is that you can make it at home. With the cook book Nourishing Broth: An Old-Fashioned Remedy For The Modern World by Sally Morell, you don't have to go to NYC to stand in line for an hour (although it was kind of fun!). There are tons of recipes for broth in this book that will satisfy a breakfast, lunch or dinner meal. Just be aware that processed canned chicken/beef stocks won't work as well as the homemade kind that you slow cook. Plus, it's more fun to make it yourself and get a lil' fancy like Brodo's Chef Canora with all the extra stuff he throws in. Get the book here on Amazon for $16.
If you made it this far, then you're in for a treat! Leave a comment below to win one of the 3 diet books you just read about. Tell me why you need the book and why you like the approach for the one you want. I'm picking all 3 winners on Valentine's Day. Good Luck!
