My Story Continued for the Lovers and Haters

My last blog really struck a chord. I was called everything from superficial, narcissistic to entitled in the comments. For some reason, my vacation pics from Hawaii were even brought up and used against me. I've never even posted them here on Mizzfit.com...yet! Also, my dogs are PUGGLES not pugs!!! I'm still trying to figure out how posting loving pictures of my dogs (who are basically my children since I have no kids) makes me a bad person with "no soul and depth". I think the person who left that comment definitely follows my personal Facebook page because I gotta admit, Shorty & Leroy get a lot of facetime on there. Love them! I just couldn't resist... But let me get on topic here. I realize that my last post was emotional. I was in the heat and thick of the moment. I also should've mentioned that Under Armour actually did hire me and contract me for the work I did. It wasn't a contest that I submitted a random video for and then got upset because I wasn't picked....

REJECTED by Under Armour

It's hard for me to write this as I'm pretty upset...so bear with me here. I have something I want to get out and I'm going to try my best to use the right words here. About a month ago I was contacted by Popsugar and Under Armour to be a part of the I WILL WHAT I WANT campaign. It's a very empowering campaign about overcoming obstacles to achieve what you want in life no matter what other people have to say. I was honored to receive the invitation to say the least, esp after watching Under Armour's Misty Copeland commercial. Under Armour's request was to make a short video sharing my story to show how I will what I want. And so I did. You can watch it below. Once I sent in the video, I did not hear from them for weeks. Popsugar kept making excuses for Under Armour but it was clear my story wasn't good enough for them. Perhaps it was because I mentioned the D-word (depression) or because I didn't wear their clothes in a sexy way. Perhaps it was because I was a little TOO...

Bike Date for Dim Sum

I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer but the end of summer is knocking. It's September if you haven't noticed and the last official day of summer is on the 22nd of the month.  I think it’s important to acknowledge in order to take advantage of what’s left of this beautiful weather. So, I planned a bike date to Chinatown with a friend because the one thing I always miss when cold weather hits are warm nights that are perfect for getting outside and spontaneously experiencing new things. A bike date? Yes, really, a bike date. It was so much fun, so affordable and by the time I got home I think I burned off my dinner. I want to share this story with you because I hope my late summer adventure here in New York City will inspire you to do the same. Before you know it, your bike will be collecting dust so why not go for a ride? Grab a date! I mentioned the idea of experiencing new things. Well, in the 11 years that I’ve been living in New York City I’ve never...

Free NYC Workouts This Fall

Usually FREE WORKOUTS only happen in the summertime. But fall is bringing it with this list of free fit events happening in New York City. I will be attending as many of them as I can, especially the one I'm hosting. Just make sure to sign up for the events you definitely want to attend ASAP. All of these promise to fill up. Sept 10th - Girls' Night Out with New Balance hosted by ME! Girls' Night Out (a.k.a. #nbgno) was at it all summer with a series of events aimed at social fitness for empowered ladies. If you read my site regularly, you'll know that it was a major success and the highlight of my summer. In celebration of fall fitness and snazzy NB activewear, Girls' Night Out is doing another event in NYC featuring the popular rowing workout by City Row. RSVP NOW and mark your calendars for Wednesday, Sept 10th at 6.30pm. The event starts at the New Balance Experience Store in Flatiron and will migrate over to the High Line (with a run) for some high-intensity...

Fitness Retailers Innovating To Meet Customer Needs

As a Mizzfit.com reader, you already know that the activewear market is booming. And all the competition amongst retailers means that companies have to innovative to thrive.  Translation? Today’s active gear is more stylish and inventive than ever before. These picks represent just how today’s companies are stepping up their games and creating one-of-a-kind items every fit gal will fall in love with. Lululemon’s Patience Tank Lululemon is a brand that many fit fashionistas love. The company is known for its high-quality and ultra-flattering clothing that’s beautiful. So it should come as no surprise that this tank dazzles. I loved how lululemon combined two other styles—the elegant back of the Free To Be bra with the deep V of the Deep Breath tank—to come up with the Patience Tank. The straps hold it in place while you move and the V-cut gives this top an extra sexy touch. The back of the tank is made out of mesh so it breathes well. It’s also...

Pumpkin Smoothie Recipe for Fit Mixologists

Here’s a recipe I whipped up to mentally prepare for fall even though I’m hanging onto the last days of summer as tightly and nostalgically as I can.  I call it Pumpkin Spice Soy Smoothie. As much as I dread cold weather and leaves turning (they're literally dying...it's so sad!), pumpkin flavored foods and drinks always cheer me up.  My Pumpkin Spice Soy Smoothie makes a nice breakfast or post-workout snack for healthy people who want pumpkin without the pie and a preview of Thanksgiving minus the alien baby in-yo-belly feeling! Besides, it’s still August and I, for one, would like to stretch out crop top season a little longer. You're gonna need these tools before you get started: A blender. I recommend a single serve blender like the Nutribullet or Magic Bullet. A flexible ice cube tray like this one A bendy straw (not really a tool but what the heck)   Ingredients and recipe (serves 1): 1 can organic pumpkin...
