I attended the 2017 Woman’s Day Red Dress Awards to join the fight against heart disease as a guest of CocoaVia® brand. I'm a sponsored CocoaVia® brand influencer, but all opinions are my own*. What an event! I truly did not expect the evening to be as spectacular as it was—it completely blew me away! Upon entering the Jazz at Lincoln Center atrium right above Columbus Circle, I was enveloped in a soft red glow and a room full of happy people buzzing around. It was a fantastic sight, with wait staff lined up to hand you a drink. Everyone (with their phones in camera mode) was drawn to the gargantuan heart “centerpiece” pumping good vibes through the room. I grabbed a drink (red bubbly to match the event’s color theme) and sashayed around during the cocktail hour in my red dress, matching every single woman in attendance. Not only is it so much fun, but it’s truly an honor to attend events like this one. Empowering women to better health...
Every now and then I do back-to-back workouts, and let me tell you, it's not always fun. You get so sore! But, when Well + Good's Fitness Biathlon is happening, I'm ALL IN. It's an amazing multi-city event that takes place every year to raise money for wellness-focused charities and organizations. The best local fitness studios participate and everyone who signs up gets to pick 2 studios for a back-to-back workout. This year's charity was Young Survival Coalition and I believe over $25,000 was raised. The biathlon kicked off in New York City in the mid-afternoon, which made it nice and easy for Saturday late risers to commit (myself included). I was ecstatic that I got to select my team by neighborhood and revist 2 boutique workouts that I haven't done in ages: Aerospace & Peloton. When you sign up for the biathlon, you're given team choices or "tracks". It's great to do with a group of friends. You literally run to your next class once you finish the first,...
I knew I'd be terrified rappelling down the side of a building but wasn't expecting it to pull on my heart strings. Meeting Lindsey Hawkins at the bottom of my rappel had me all teary-eyed. Her passion and enthusiasm calmed me and left me wanting to know more about her. I blogged about my Over The Edge Rappel experience last year. I shared pics of my descent and was proud to announce that I had reached my fundraising goal. However, the story for me was far from complete. I kept thinking about Lindsey and the moment she hugged me. So, I kind of hunted her down! Please watch my video above, which includes my interview with Miss Lindsey Hawkins. She's a Special Olympics athlete who's been with the organization for 14 years. She finds immense pride in this and told me that she plays every team sport that is offered through Special Olympics of Missouri (SOMO). She describes how she feels about the 14 years she's invested in sports at SOMO as "the heart and soul of an...
Crazy that I'm just getting around to writing about this. It's been a whirlwind of a month but I'm finally back at Mizzfit headquarters blogging about all my exciting Fall adventures. Rappelling off a 20-story building is definitely one of them. I'll start here... There's an amazing event called Over The Edge that happens nationwide through the Special Olympics, and I decided to do it in St. Louis where I grew up. Even though I live in New York City, I will always be a Midwestern girl at heart. So, when the Special Olympics of Missouri asked me to work with them, I said hell yes! Read about in my announcement post here. Oh...but wait...I'm scared of heights. Will that be a problem? Not when a team like this has your back ;) What follows are my favorite photographs from the day I conquered my fears with the Special Olympics of Missouri. In addition to raising awareness for this extraordinary event, I raised money to support it. To thank everyone who...
I have committed to take on a huge challenge considering my insane fear of heights. I will be rappelling down the Hyatt Regency St. Louis at The Arch so that Special Olympics athletes from my hometown can train, compete and enjoy a lifetime of their own thrills. You can be a fan of Special Olympics too by making a donation. - See more at: http://somo.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=1124057&supi...
