During this past New York Fashion Week 2014, I was invited to Style Coalition's beautiful influencer event at their loft in the Meatpacking District (right around the corner from Mizzfit headquarters). The Influencer Lounge was lavishly set up for Style Coalition's bloggers and vloggers to primp, enjoy a cocktail and rest their sore feet in between fashion shows. I got a gel manicure, had some champagne and made a huge discovery! While getting a makeup touch-up, I was introduced to Burt's Bees new line of lip crayons. Umm, I had no idea Burt's had expanded their product line so much so I was excited to get the scoop and sample it! I must admit, lip crayons were a little foreign to me even though I already owned one (thanks to Michelle Phan's Ipsy Glam Bag). I just didn't know how to use it correctly. So, I let the makeup artist at Style Coalition do her thing (as I meticulously watched her so I could reproduce the effect later)...and now, of course, I'm...
My last blog really struck a chord. I was called everything from superficial, narcissistic to entitled in the comments. For some reason, my vacation pics from Hawaii were even brought up and used against me. I've never even posted them here on Mizzfit.com...yet! Also, my dogs are PUGGLES not pugs!!! I'm still trying to figure out how posting loving pictures of my dogs (who are basically my children since I have no kids) makes me a bad person with "no soul and depth". I think the person who left that comment definitely follows my personal Facebook page because I gotta admit, Shorty & Leroy get a lot of facetime on there. Love them! I just couldn't resist... But let me get on topic here. I realize that my last post was emotional. I was in the heat and thick of the moment. I also should've mentioned that Under Armour actually did hire me and contract me for the work I did. It wasn't a contest that I submitted a random video for and then got upset because I wasn't picked....
It's hard for me to write this as I'm pretty upset...so bear with me here. I have something I want to get out and I'm going to try my best to use the right words here. About a month ago I was contacted by Popsugar and Under Armour to be a part of the I WILL WHAT I WANT campaign. It's a very empowering campaign about overcoming obstacles to achieve what you want in life no matter what other people have to say. I was honored to receive the invitation to say the least, esp after watching Under Armour's Misty Copeland commercial. Under Armour's request was to make a short video sharing my story to show how I will what I want. And so I did. You can watch it below. Once I sent in the video, I did not hear from them for weeks. Popsugar kept making excuses for Under Armour but it was clear my story wasn't good enough for them. Perhaps it was because I mentioned the D-word (depression) or because I didn't wear their clothes in a sexy way. Perhaps it was because I was a little TOO...
I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer but the end of summer is knocking. It's September if you haven't noticed and the last official day of summer is on the 22nd of the month. I think it’s important to acknowledge in order to take advantage of what’s left of this beautiful weather. So, I planned a bike date to Chinatown with a friend because the one thing I always miss when cold weather hits are warm nights that are perfect for getting outside and spontaneously experiencing new things. A bike date? Yes, really, a bike date. It was so much fun, so affordable and by the time I got home I think I burned off my dinner. I want to share this story with you because I hope my late summer adventure here in New York City will inspire you to do the same. Before you know it, your bike will be collecting dust so why not go for a ride? Grab a date! I mentioned the idea of experiencing new things. Well, in the 11 years that I’ve been living in New York City I’ve never...
Usually FREE WORKOUTS only happen in the summertime. But fall is bringing it with this list of free fit events happening in New York City. I will be attending as many of them as I can, especially the one I'm hosting. Just make sure to sign up for the events you definitely want to attend ASAP. All of these promise to fill up. Sept 10th - Girls' Night Out with New Balance hosted by ME! Girls' Night Out (a.k.a. #nbgno) was at it all summer with a series of events aimed at social fitness for empowered ladies. I love when good things never die! I'm happy to report that Girls' Night Out events (#NBGNO) will continue to pop up across the country and eventually circle back to New York City in September. The next one is in Santa Monica on Wednesday, August 27th at 6.30pm at the NB Store on 2600 Wilshire Boulevard. Hosting the Girls' Night Out campaign for New Balance was one of the highlights of my summer. I got to work out and connect with so many amazing women who believe in the benefits of social fitness. What I loved most is that these women weren't competitive, mean, selfish or jealous. They were a bonded, smiling-laughing group. It was so refreshing to experience. I have to be candid and say that last night I went to an unrelated fitness event I was invited to in New York City, and there were several fitness bloggers in attendance who were very unfriendly (wouldn't say hello or shake hands) and no one socialized. When I attempted to introduce myself to strike up a...
