I LOVE LUCY

It’s one of my favorite places to shop for workout clothes. Why? Because they’re clothes are stylish, functional and well made. Because they have great sales on items that are cross-seasonal. Because Lucy apparel will give you an edge and set you apart from Lululemon clones. Because you can shop apparel on their website by sport. Because their website puts outfits together for you. At this rate, they might as well spend the night and make me breakfast in the morning because I’m seriously in love. Find LUCY at www.lucy.com or Lucy on Facebook.

ROCKETTE SISTERS ROCK FITNESS FASHION

Jo+Jax is fitness fashion at its best—urban, sexy and comfortable. The line embodies free spirited, funky women with an inner tomboy and a lot of sass. What’s not to like? Most interesting is the story behind Jo+Jax apparel. The founders are 2 sisters from Salt Lake City: Jo and Jax. They grew up in their mother’s dance studio and shared the stage together as Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. They started designing dance and active-wear to get noticed at auditions and before long they were dressing all of Radio City. Jo+Jax apparel is all about bold color, confidence, attitude and movement. If you’re not going to stand out and show off your personality, what’s the point?

The Fitwalk

Stella McCartney introduces a different kind of catwalk to fashion die-hards and explains the relationship between fashion and sport in her active-wear designs.

“We’re not trying to take sportswear to fashion. We’re trying to take fashion to sportswear, which I think is quite novel for that arena because it’s usually the other way around. We’re trying to stay quite true to what we set out to do.”

You have to give it to Stella…she brings edgy fashion to the fitness camp. I love her latest collection featuring sheer, lightweight fabrics, but I think her designs are too delicate for intense fitness activity. Her line doesn’t offer athletes much support, insulation or weather protection. Stella’s collection hangs nicely on store racks and these days I see most of it on sale. I have faith in the line though and I think it won’t be long before Stella nails it. For now, I love that she’s creatively bridging fashion and fitness. The clips from the London...

Legs for Leggings: The Bar Method Workout

by Karen Shelhorse, STL Fitness Trainer and mizzFIT Fitness Over Forty blogger

Leggings and skinny jeans are “in” and so is having the legs to wear them. Anyone can throw on a pair of leggings but let’s be honest, the “skinny” fad looks best on toned and shapely legs. The Bar Method workout gives you just that. It’s your go-to for legging prep and studios are popping up everywhere because women love the results. Bar Method classes will whip your legs into shape and give you a workout that kept me, a trainer, sore for days in all the right spots!

The program is ballet and dance-oriented, taking inspiration from the workout of professional dancers. Form and posture are closely observed and modified by instructors. If you’ve never danced before, don’t worry! You don’t need prior dance experience and the class is easy to follow especially since many of the instructors are actual dancers who explain movements and transitions clearly. The exercises...
