Got workout soreness? Relief is here!

Exercising frequently and playing sports takes a toll on your body. There's always going to be soreness and injury. You really can't avoid it if you're passionate about fitness and like to push yourself hard. It happens to newbies, too. Especially when your body hasn't quite acclimated to routine training. Over the years, I've learned a lot of tricks and natural healing methods to help my muscles recover faster and get me back into the game. These are just a few... Cold & Hot Therapy - Make sure to ice areas of inflammation and swelling followed by soaking in a hot bath to relieve pain/soreness. Epsom Salt added to a hot bath is extremely soothing for your muscles. Or, any kind of high magnesium based salt. Essential oils (mixed correctly) can relax and calm tense areas. Homeopathic biomedicines like arnica, calendula and echinacea can be just as effective as over the counter pain relief pills and narcotic pain killers. And they're better for...

Well+Good Fitness Biathlon with Vega

Every now and then I do back-to-back workouts, and let me tell you, it's not always fun. You get so sore! But, when Well + Good's Fitness Biathlon is happening, I'm ALL IN. It's an amazing multi-city event that takes place every year to raise money for wellness-focused charities and organizations.  The best local fitness studios participate and everyone who signs up gets to pick 2 studios for a back-to-back workout. This year's charity was Young Survival Coalition and I believe over $25,000 was raised. The biathlon kicked off in New York City in the mid-afternoon, which made it nice and easy for Saturday late risers to commit (myself included). I was ecstatic that I got to select my team by neighborhood and revist 2 boutique workouts that I haven't done in ages: Aerospace & Peloton. When you sign up for the biathlon, you're given team choices or "tracks". It's great to do with a group of friends. You literally run to your next class once you finish the first,...

My Gym Body Shamed Me!

-- This is a guest blog post by Christina Canterino -- I want to share a story with the world that has affected me in a way I never thought possible. Let me start by giving you a little background about myself…   I am a 29 year old woman, and I lost sixty pounds in two and a half years. I have kept the weight off and have gotten leaner, faster, and stronger as each day passes. I struggled with bulimia throughout my young adult years, going in and out of therapy and treatment. It was so bad, that i was forced to drop out of college midway through my second semester. It was one of the most difficult periods of my life. Now, I consider myself athletic, confident, and healthy. A few years ago, I was able to complete my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology. However, fitness and wellness have grown to become my passion. During the day, I am a working member of corporate America. At night I am a group fitness instructor. I am studying for the NASM...

New York City from the JW Marriott Essex House - Win a 2-night stay!

⬆️ ⬆️ WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE ⬆️ ⬆️ New Yorkers don't get to experience their city as a tourist very often. Life goes by very fast here and you're constantly rushing somewhere, hopping in and out of subways, cabs, Ubers, Lyfts, Vias and whatever else is next as far as our ever growing transportation options. It sounds crazy, but the energy and pulse of New York City can make you take the city itself for granted. They say you can always tell the difference between a real New Yorker and a tourist because the locals never look up. We're too fixated on where we have to be next that we don't appreciate our skyscrapers and landmarks. Well...this New Yorker (me!) decided it was time to change that. I planned an Uptown Manhattan stay-cation and checked into a room with a view at the JW Marriot Essex House right across the street from Central Park. My stay-cation that you're reading about can be your next vacation simply be entering the sweepstakes contest at the...

Quarterly Unboxing + #MIZ12 Spoilers

#MIZ12 is shipping out in just a few days and I'm sharing SPOILERS! As you might already know, the theme of the box is GYMSETTER. I blogged about why I chose this theme and announced the Golden Ticket prize that comes with it RIGHT HERE! I honestly can't wait to see who wins. I hope it's YOU! Because then I get to meet you! We also decided to add some smaller Golden Ticket prizes to the pot. Heard of Fleeps? They're funky flip flps with an ankle-wrap closure that you can customize with color. Have you ever lost a flip flop while wearing it--as in, it flew backwards off your foot? It happens to me all the time when I'm walking fast or rushing somewhere. This won't happen in Fleeps because of the ankle-wrap but the true draw is how cute they are! Before I get into #MIZ12 Quarterly Box spoilers, I want to share this unboxing for #MIZ11. I like to give people who aren't subscribed yet a look at what goes into my Quarterly Boxes and how I put them together. There's meaning...

Model Brad Welling Peaks In His 50's

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw pictures of model Brad Welling. He's strikingly handsome with silver hair and abs that put men half his age to shame. His modeling agency TRUE Model Management calls him their "unicorn", which I believe is the right word to describe him because he's an anomaly! Brad is 56 and what's even more compelling than his good looks is the fact that he didn't always look this way. In fact, up until just a few years ago, Brad was a skinny out-of-shape father coping with the stress of raising his newly adopted daughter all on his own. The best day of his life was becoming a dad but he lost so much weight as he took on the endless responsibilities of fatherhood. You can see that he looks older and gaunt in the face in the pictures above. Raising a child isn't easy as every parent knows but Brad didn't want to let go of his health and lose himself. The year after his daughter was born, he hit the gym and started working out with a trainer. Brad...
