So this is a recap on the last 2 months of my life. I figured why not turn the lens around and show you what's going on in my life. I enjoy narrating through pictures so here goes... 1. I launched an incredible Mizzfit sock line with Pointe Studio because I love barre fitness like a crackhead. The response has been amazing and no one has thrown their sweaty socks at me yet. They're grippy on the bottom so if you don't do barre, you can also just wear them at home instead of scratching up your nice wood floors with heels. They make great stocking stuffers too. 2. I spoke at iHeart Radio's Lifestyle Health & Wellness Expo in Brooklyn, NY. I'll be at the next one in Harlem, too, on January 29th of 2015. I was honored to speak alongside someone I quite admire: Miss Jenna Wolfe (health & fitness correspondent of the Today Show). I convinced her to meet with me and give me career advice so I will keep you filled in on how that goes. My advice to you...
I was lucky enough to interview Latham Thomas for my Women Who Empower series on YouTube. She inspires women through her business Mama Glow, her "hip guide" on prenatal wellness, her beautiful affirmations on social media and through all her doula work. She's been known to work with many celebrities like Alicia Keys. Latham also helps women get fit during and post-pregnancy. When I first approached Latham about filming together, I asked her if she'd comment on the events that went down in Ferguson, Missouri, which is not far from where I grew up in St. Louis. She was all IN. The conversation we had below was months before there was a final decision for NO INDICTMENT in the case against Darren Wilson. Click HERE or on the image below to watch. Everything Latham says comes from such a calm and honest place. Find out what the life of a Prenatal Wellness Expert is all about, especially if you're interested in becoming a doula or hiring one to assist you through your...
I'm 35 years old and what makes me a strikingly different person than my 20-year-old self is that I care a lot more about my health. With the exception of an ocassional late night Insomnia Cookies order, I take waaaaaay better care of myself now. God, if I could go back and undo all the terrible things I did to my body and skin in my 20's I'd be in a time machine in a heartbeat! And I'd smack myself silly before getting into all those damn tanning beds! If I had only known to do what works for me now. Oh well, stupid 20-year-old self, good thing you no longer run the show! One of my best pieces of advice for women in their 30's is to always stay hydrated. It really doesn't matter the time of year or season, we need water for our bodies to function effectively, to lubricate our joints, revitalize our skin and have good poops. There are more reasons but these are my favorites. In fact, I'm going to share 5 hydration tips with you that never fail me. But since I like to tell...
As if speaking for Cornell University and Fitness Magazine last month wasn't enough, I've been invited to join the Lifestyle Health & Wellness Expo as a panelist! This is so exciting for me because it will be my 1st time speaking at a health expo. For years I've been attending them as a trend spotter and all around wellness "sponge", but now I get to be the expert on stage and that's a HUGE HONOR! Clearly I want you to be there. Lifestyle Health & Wellness Expo Saturday, November 22nd from 10am-2pm 1 Hanson Place, Brooklyn, NY 11243 If you're local to New York or want to take the drive in, stop on by! This year the Lifestyle Health & Wellness Expo is happening in Brooklyn, New York at Skylight One Hanson. Dr. Oz is our headlining host and you can expect to get lots of info on healthy living and eating, fitness regimens, as well as health insurance options. Since this event is being provided by several popular radio stations, you'll see...
A wellness "scene" has emerged. There are workout cliques, fit celebrities and even healthy parties that are impossible to get into. Like what happened to my invite to Athleta's 2014 NY Fashion Week Show??? Guess their short list is getting shorter, but that's how it goes these days. Wellness isn't just nutritional, science-y and medical anymore. It's SOCIAL. Everybody's reading Well + Good and fitness companies are dying for a mention. Not only is there money in the health category, there's also status. Pretty soon we'll be rubbing elbows in gluten-free strip clubs. Ha! Anyway, you get what I'm saying. Wellness is cool and ADDICTING. Our time has arrived and we can be more unapologetically excessive than ever. Today's round-up of TRENDS was inspired by my addiction. These things make it easier for me to get my fix. 1. YourGuru - Because you only want the BEST SH*T around and the only way to get that is to ask your friends in-the-know. They might be "dealers" or...
Having fire-ry passion is responsible for all of my success. That's why PASSION was the theme of my 4th Quarterly box. Don't get me wrong, I'm not calling myself Steve Jobs here, but I do take pride in my accomplishments. For example, I created a business and brand back in 2009 out of nothing but a love for fitness. Nearly 6 years later, I'm happily making a living out of that business...and to think it all grew out of the small passion seed I planted is pretty cool. I want everyone to experience this because being passionate about your chosen path is thrilling. But it can also be confusing. I'm an Ivy school graduate but I sure as hell didn't go to business school and didn't know a thing about running a biz until I tried to teach myself...or ended up learning by trial and error. Doh! Finding your passion and acting on it are 2 of the greatest challenges in life. You'll shed blood, sweat and tears doing it. The sweating part is KEY in my opinion because...
