Hey guys! Last year in December, I had the greatest opportunity to visit Saint Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. I'd never been before and I was so excited to be going somwhere warm and tropical. The purpose of my trip was to try out some fun activities offered by The Frenchman's Reef and Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort. Specifically, Night Kayaking and SUP Yoga. It's quite special that a beach resort prides itself on attractions like these so I enthusiastically flew to Saint Thomas to experience them. My direct flight was an easy 4 hours from New York. I went to Mau with Joe! AKA my instagram husband. I go to Hawaii every year in the spring and I make a point of going to a different island each year. I guess you could say I'm a tad obsessed but it's impossible not to be once you visit Hawaii for the first time (no matter which island you land on). You will fall in love with the island culture and aloha spirit, especially if you're stimulated by nature, beaches, water sports, the BEST food and super chill people.
This topic is an important one, especially in light of the deaths of Karina Vetrano and Vanessa Marcotte, which both really affected me as an avid outdoor runner. Karina's death was just too close to home. Her body was found along a Howard Beach path she ran down often. And finally, just a few days ago, her murderer/rapist was caught and charged. Vanessa Marcotte's death, while it didn't happen in New York City proper (her body was found in Massachusetts where she was jogging while visting her mother), was still a major reality check for me because she worked at Google, a mere block away from where I used to live here in NYC. For months, every time I walked past the Google building, all I could think about was her untimely death. What a tragedy in both cases. Every now and then I do back-to-back workouts, and let me tell you, it's not always fun. You get so sore! But, when Well + Good's Fitness Biathlon is happening, I'm ALL IN. It's an amazing multi-city event that takes place every year to raise money for wellness-focused charities and organizations. The best local fitness studios participate and everyone who signs up gets to pick 2 studios for a back-to-back workout. This year's charity was Young Survival Coalition and I believe over $25,000 was raised. The biathlon kicked off in New York City in the mid-afternoon, which made it nice and easy for Saturday late risers to commit (myself included).
