This weekend, I went roller skating as part of a “girls night” with some friends. We giggled as we got dressed in multi-colored tights and gold hotpants, and outright belly-laughed as we each took turns hitting the floor in glorious, flailing spills. But as we all exchanged text messages the next day about various sore body parts, it became clear—roller skating is a WORKOUT! And that’s why, below, I give you 5 reasons for why a roller girl is a fit girl.
1. Roller girls have great gams
Between constantly pushing off the ground and lifting up that several-pound skate over and over, you're in for some serious quad-fatigue. Since you’ll be carving out strong stems, show 'em off in fun, dual-colored tights like these from American Apparel.
2. Roller girls get a sculpted booty
Here’s where some talent could come in handy for symmetrical toning: since I can only (barely) skate forwards, I got a...
I'm an over-packer. I can't help it! I like to be prepared for anything and everything that comes my way when I'm far from home. My suitcase gets stuffed with a lot of fitness apparel (more than my regular clothes) because I like to have options for different kinds of activities. This shouldn't surprise you--I have an entire closet devoted to my fitness wardrobe.
I'm always surprised by how much workout clothes can weigh, especially sneakers! Up until the winter holidays I was getting quite used to airline personnel sneering at me for overweight luggage, but then I discovered a new workout shoe that actually helps me pack light.
It's called the Nike Free XT Quick Fit+ and it's a fashionable, super lightweight sneaker that packs easily. It comes in a few color combinations, the charcoal/magenta (pictured) being my favorite because it's exceptionally shiny without being silver. Beyond it's packability, the Nike Free XT is a well-rounded workout shoe. You can run,...

THE MAKEOVER
Meet Shana. She's a New York City based publicist who's ALWAYS on the move. Her days are packed with client meetings, media events, launch parties, and cabs from downtown to midtown and back. Shana's a busy, career-loving kind of girl, but she's looking to make more time for the gym and would like to feel confident kick-starting a new routine. That's where I come in! In this video I give Shana an emergency fitness fashion makeover that has her feeling confident and excited for gym time.
I love both looks on Shana but the outfit with the silver jacket and matching hair tie from Gap Body is my personal favorite. Shana ultimately decided to go with the NYC inspired look which she felt most comfortable in--smart girl! Comfort is key. Shana looked great during our Tonique workout from start to finish. If you have questions about the fitness couture featured in this video, just give me a shout.
