Half Marathon Training Tips - Prep With Me!

I recently ran the More/Fitness/Shape Magazine Women's Half Marathon in New York City and couldn't be more pleased with the quality of my run. So many factors go into having a great run. Of course, you have to train consistently, eat right and get plenty of sleep and hydration. But there are other things you learn through trial & error to help improve your run. I've been running long distances since highschool and to this day I'm still discovering new tricks for a smoother run. Here are 5 Tips that helped me excel in my recent half marathon (and make me want to attempt another...even though I swore it'd be my last one at mile 10...so typical!). 1. Test everything you plan on wearing for the official half marathon race day during your last few training runs. From your clothes to accessories and gadgets, don't take a risk by wearing it for the first time on race day! Make sure to give it a test run so that you know it feels comfortable on your body and that it works the...

Knee-High in Fun

There's nothing more fun than playing dress up with your best friend, especially when it involves a bunch of funky socks from Chrissy's Knee High Socks. I teamed up with Chrissy's and my bestie, Michelle from YoGoGirls, to bring you these playful and sporty looks. Hopefully they'll inspire you to get creative with something as simple and inexpensive as a pair of socks. I picked out some rather loud styles for our shoot but once I got comfortable in them, I had no qualms wearing them "off-set". And if anyone has ever told you that knee highs only look good on girls with skinny legs, well, that's just NOT TRUE. I'm 5'2" with muscular legs and I loved the way these Polka Dot Socks almost seemed to lengthen my legs. Short girls are always getting brainwashed into thinking we can't pull off more eccentric looks or fashion trends that taller girls can get away with. Personally, I just think it's a matter of choosing a pattern, color or length that best suit your legs. For...

I'm in the Lacroix Water Ads!

I used to write and design ads for a living and now, I'm in one! Check me out in Lacroix Sparkling Water's new campaign called "Start A Healthy Relationship", which can be seen on the Lacroix website and in several fitness & health publications like Oxygen Magazine. It's totally blowing my mind but at the same time I keep asking myself: why should this feel surreal? I earned it. Since May of 2009, I've been on a mission to take everything I learned and experienced from my advertising career and turn into something truly positive that will help women embrace health & wellness. And here I am, in an ad for a beverage that I truly love, representing that movement. I'm overjoyed and so thankful. I couldn't see into the future years ago and never knew what would come of my crazy idea to build Mizzfit.com and become an influencer within the health industry. I was so freakin' scared but I did it. So I want all of you to know that anything is possible with hard work,...

What's On My Desk?

So it's Friday and I'm at the office. I thought I'd share with you what I've got on my desk today: the March issue of People Style Watch Magazine and my new favorite toy, a Ball Wide Mouth Mason Jar with a fruit infuser lid! I typically only share my press features on my press page, but today I'm expecially THANKFUL because this issue of People Style Watch marks the 12th time I've been quoted in their magazine. I'm feeling really grateful for 2.5 years of working with them to report on the hottest fitness trends happening nation-wide. I also wanted to take a moment to tell all of you that I'm always here to answer your questions about health & wellness so feel free to contact me. My mission has always been to get you moving! It's why I love my job :) I know in the winter it can be really hard, if not impossible, to go outside for a run. God knows I won't do it in these temperatures that have been hitting NYC. I hope my latest quote in PSW Mag will inspire you...

Yoga & Friendship

Yoga is the best excuse to see my friends. It's one of the easiest invitations to extend because no one has time--including me--to workout and see their friends unless it's happening simultaneously. I make yoga dates with my girlfriends constantly because I feel like I get the most quality time with them during this workout than any other. Forget the high intensity stuff--it's far less intimate. Yoga's the one activity where even though you're not talking, you're still connecting with each other while on your mats. In this case, it's imperative that your mats are side by side so you can visually bond with your friend. This is Nicola Yvette, my longtime friend who teaches yoga & pilates (check her out here). Oh look, she's wearing my socks! Last night we went on yoga date to Laughing Lotus Yoga NYC and it was pretty awesome to experience her energy and soulfulness right beside me. I saw a side of her that I don't always get to see in sit-down...

Waitlisted to Workout? My Solution!

It’s a sweat and be seen dynamic in the fitness world these days. People head to boutique studios in droves instead of local membership-style gyms. Stylized express-fitness classes are where it's at, and everybody wants a spot! Even my hunky Australian officemate who is the epitome of a guy's guy goes to SoulCycle and has a ClassPass acount. When he's off to a class, I get serious FOMO (fear of missing out). It's like he's going to a party I haven't been invited to...so strange. People don’t just show up to class…they show up wearing designer sportswear and the latest in tracking accessories. As a fitness trend expert, I’m thrilled to see this movement thrive, but I go crazy when I can’t sign up for a class because it's completely SOLD OUT! I'm given the option to add my name to the waitlist...that's already 17 people long. Nope. Not gonna do it. I shouldn't have to wait in a virtual line to work out. Sooooo I teamed up with Lucy Activewear to go BACK TO BASICS...
